I did not want to go OT on the lounge thread, but the above post by Srisarin recommends restaurants Zills Tunnel and Romanushof. The meal reservation I seek needs to have very good steaks. I am looking at Steaktrain which happens to be close to the Marriott. Any feedback on a place with good steaks from an American point of view? |

Thank you. Given the Steaktrain prices I hope the steaks are not a disappointment.

Here are some notes about the Leipzig, Germany, Marriott.
Lounge hours: 6 am - 12 midnight. Breakfast: 6:30 am - 10:30 am, with Sat and Sun breakfast in the main restaurant. I was told it would cost 20 Euros more for breakfast in the main restaurant on M-F. Evening food: 5:30 - 7:30 warm; 5:30 - 9:30 pm cold. I think the food is good but perhaps limited because of the small size of the lounge. The gym is also very small and has mostly treadmills. There is one multiple-purpose machine and an adequate assortment of dumbbells. I did not use the pool or whirlpool. No problems with check-in, wifi, or staff requests. |
Very impressed with the lounge here and my comfortable 6h floor room. I'm just a few doors down from the lounge making access quite convenient. I see an earlier poster commented about power access. They seemed to have resolved this with a power strip on the end table next to the bed with five outlets.

Hi All,
A quick update for this hotel. My wife and I stayed in late August and found the hotel to be good, if not great. We had a rate of close to 90 euros a night which we did not think was too bad. Hotel location is also close to the main train station and the city center which was a plus. Our room was more or less standard - nothing to "write home about" - however the executive lounge and breakfast offerings were decent. Our only issue was the desk clerk not recognizing my wife's status due to an error with her account after the Marriott - Starwood merger. We eventually convinced her my wife was a Gold member (now Platinum) and could use the lounge / breakfast, but it was not a very warm reception. Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

Corona update
Just an update from Leipzig Marriott during Corona.
Titanium benefits update They have provided a modified Lounge experience which is pretty good |
Since it's been awhile since the last report, just wanted to update that I stayed here last week and the lounge was pretty good. Breakfast in the lounge included a few hot dishes each morning (like scrambled eggs, bacon and ham), plus the usual expected cold offerings in Europe (cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, cereal, salad, smoked fish, etc). Evening service included a variety of small individually plated hors d'oeuvres that rotated, cheese and cold cuts, and a few hot dishes that one could make dinner out of if desired. (For example, one night it was a beef dish, potatoes and pasta). Drinks included sparking, red and white wine, and beers.
No real upgrade given, but I was put on the Executive Lounge floor. The hotel also left a nice welcome amenity with card in the room, consisting of still and sparkling water, and a small dessert. The hotel had signs up celebrating its 25th anniversary, which for me only emphasized that all the hotel decor must be from 1998 and it's probably past due for a renovation. (The rooms and furniture are all well maintained, however.) AC was only able to cool the room to 23 C, but since I had just arrived from another Marriott family hotel in Germany with broken AC, I was happy to take what I could get! I did prefer the Marriott's location to the Westin, even though they are only a few blocks away. The Marriott is right across from the train station, which makes arriving and departing very easy if you're traveling by DB, and also basically in the old town. |
The Leipzig Marriott was far better than I expected based on the room photos - it’s rather impressive how they have managed to maintain this very traditional decor package. Here are my impressions and photos:
Pros:
Cons:
I would return. I think I liked this one more than the Westin. Photos (please expand the Spoiler tag):

Does anyone know when they will finally renovate the Marriott Leipzig? They are good at the maintenance part but here and there you can see that the renovation is now overdue.

I stayed at this property recently for two nights and found it okay, but not impressive. Overall I preferred the Westin.
Check-In was fairly confusing. At some point 1,000 points as welcome gift were mentioned (no other explicit status recognition), and then I was handed the room key without any mention of late check-out, lounge etc. When I asked whether breakfast would be in the lounge (or whether choosing the restaurant was also an option), they handed me a pre-printed sheet and said that this explains all Elite benefits. This included all the information that I wanted, but it was a fairly underwhelming process. Room keys then had to be recoded for late check-out. I was upgraded to a "suite". It didn't look exactly like in EE's pictures above, but was still (just) a larger room with a couch/table area. The room had a proper work desk, but it was difficult to use the electrical outlets due to the way how lamps etc. were plugged in. As others have noted, everything has a pretty tired and dated "old Marriott" feel - not in a "nice and classic" way, but just feels overdue for refreshing and renovating. The lounge is not bad. On the positive side, it has food/snack offerings all day, with a fairly wide selection of cakes and other sweet dishes throughout the afternoon. On the other hand, breakfast had a pretty limited selection. In the evening, they served a (changing) hot dish (plus what looks like bread/cheese/etc. leftovers from breakfast), which I sampled every day, but never really liked. To me, the evening food offering is only good if you want a lot of free food, but otherwise just not very appealing. Housekeeping was underwhelming in the sense that they seemed to do only one "round" on each floor and never check back on rooms that had DND out. In the early afternoon, many rooms already had a "We tried to service your room, but couldn't due to DND" placard on the door. Location is good right opposite the central station. |
Hotel: Marriott Leipzig
Status: Titanium Elite Booked: Deluxe Room ("closet room") Received: Initially a Club Room, later downgraded to a Deluxe Room Welcome Treatment: 0.375L Prosecco (a nice touch) Benefits: 1,000 points Length of Stay: 3 nights Check-in: Friendly and efficient I just returned from a 3-night stay at the Marriott Leipzig and wanted to share my impressions. Upon arrival, I noticed that a corner studio suite was initially assigned to my reservation, but just before check-in, it was silently replaced by a club room. At check-in, I received Room 629 – located right next to the lounge and directly across from the elevators. Unfortunately, every time the lounge door opened or closed, noticeable vibrations could be felt in the bed, and hallway noise was quite present. After a few hours, I asked to switch rooms. Despite multiple suite categories still showing as available in the app, I was moved to a standard room facing the courtyard – again next to the elevators. While elevator noise wasn’t an issue this time, the construction site just outside the courtyard ensured a sharp wake-up call at 07:30 AM on weekdays. To be fair, the rooms are nicely appointed – Nespresso machines even in standard categories, comfortable beds, and a clean, well-maintained bathroom. A complimentary bottle of water was provided, although it wasn’t replenished during the stay – which felt a bit stingy for a 5-star property. Special kudos to the lounge staff – especially the gentleman managing the lounge during my stay. Professional, friendly, and highly attentive. He really stood out in an otherwise rather underwhelming stay. All in all, not a terrible experience, but certainly a mixed one – and not quite what I expect from a Marriott of this level. Just thought I'd share. |
We recently stayed at the Marriott Leipzig. We had no complaints. It is a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof. (Also a short walk to the old town square and St. Thomas Church.) We booked a standard room and received a room on the 6th floor. (No significant upgrade.) Only view was next door building. Room had a desk, chair and another comfy chair. We had breakfast each morning in the regular restaurant (first floor), complimentary for us as MB Platinum. Executive lounge was fine (but not outstanding).
