This hotel doesn't have a club lounge. I haven't done a review of the St. R Shanghai yet, they have a Club Lounge which I did take advantage of...I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Anyone stay here recently? I have some points and certificates I'm trying to blow through and was wondering if I should stay here or one of the JW Marriotts (if JW, which one?). Ritz doesn't interest me as no free breakfast

Last time I was here 10 yrs ago it was already getting a little old looking

Thanks. I'm Lifetime Titanium

Was dated 10 years ago as SHLTP says, but service was always good in my experience.

Several days out I was pre-upgraded to a statesman suite. We will see if it still holds when I check in in a few days but it is nice for hotel to do this.

I did contact them and they said ambassadors are upgraded to diplomat Suite I think it is called if available, while Titanium and Plats get statesmen. If true, then here is an example of a hotel that does indeed differentiate tiers as they should

The Statesman Suite is a great pre-arrival upgrade. The Diplomat suite (not a true suite tbh) is smaller than the statesman suite so I don’t think the person you talked to was correct. Their executive suite is called an Ambassador suite but that probably has little to do with Ambassador status. This hotel has upgraded repeat elite guests to their China Suite with a balcony before but I have no idea what they’re doing these days.

With all of that being said, I don’t find the suites and hard product here to be particularly competitive.

Again, kudos to this hotel for pre-uprading me to a suite. The butler will press 2 clothes for me within an hour (nice as I'm filming soon).

Service so far good. Full buffet breakfast tomorrow.

But it's like going into a time warp hardware wise. Upkeep is not the problem it's like going 20 years into the past style wise.

This place needs a massive renovation or else Chinese will have a bad image of STR. My 2dt experience with STR was old Shanghai STR which was terrible and this one which was already outdated 10 yrs ago. I'm surprised Marriott hasn't forced a renovation to ensure brand standards and brand positioning for the lucrative China market

Is there a lounge now despite all of the comments from before? Thinking of this or the J.W. for a week during the summer, appreciate the info!!! Just read OMAT, apparently the lounge is available to all guests as opposed to strictly Platinum and above (understand now).

Does anyone know if I add someone in the booking, would they be able to check in without me? I have a reservation for The St. Regis Beijing this October.

I stayed here for 2 nights over 2023-2024 New Year's Eve using the $100 Property Credit rate.
I debated myself between this, Renaissance Beijing Capital, and JW Marriott, and ended up with this because of the "2nd ring road" location.

Pros
  • Absolutely no smell of cigarette in the room and anywhere in the hotel. This is typically rare in China luxury properties.
  • Booked the lowest category but upgraded to the "Diplomat Deluxe" Studio on the top floor upon arrival. It has the same size as the Junior Suite without the wall partition.
  • Being upgraded to the top floor, I have access to the Business Lounge / Club but only at certain hours.
  • Best hotel restaurant in China in terms of the taste. The Chinese restaurant (Guangdong cuisine) is very authentic, and they have a cheap Lunch set (lobster and dumplings) for about 220 CNY. The portions are quite large and 1 set is enough for 2 persons to eat.
  • Room furnishing is very luxurious, with marble bathroom, wooden furniture, and unexpected Japanese TOTO smart toilet seat.
  • Full breakfast buffet included in Bonvoy membership.
  • The heat (air conditioning) is sufficient when the outside is freezing in winter.
  • 2nd ring road location and close to attractions if you always hire a ride (Didi).
Cons
  • The front desk insisted that the $100 Property Credit consists of $70 for Restaurant and $30 for Spa. I told the front desk during check in that the Marriott terms online did not give the Hotel the right to designate spending type. I also saw that my check in form said Amex FHR rate, which I know that wrong rate allows the Hotel the right to designate spending type.
I even called Marriott corporate, but they said they could not easily argue with them in Chinese over the phone. The front desk then called the reservation department and obtained exception for allowing me to spend $100 in Restaurant alone.
However, upon check out, another staff from the front desk denied me again in a frustrated manner (the staff is frustrated). In the end, they had to get a "manager authorization".

I believe this dispute will never happen again, as Marriott recently changed the terms to favor the Hotel.

Old Marriott Terms: "Credit can be used toward incidental spend up to 100 USD during the hotel stay, including dining, spa services and hotel recreational activities that are not managed by a third party."
New Marriott Terms: "Additional exclusions based on specific hotel restrictions may also apply (including, without limitation, purchases within the hotel that are made with a third-party merchant and alcohol where prohibited by local ordinances)."
    credit-cards.marriott.com/terms/100propertycredit/en-us

  • Because of the layout of the hotel (L-shaped), all rooms from one side can see the rooms on the other side. So do not expect much privacy there.
Overall, I think I will still consider this property in Beijing, as long as the package price is right. This hotel is more expensive than Renaissance Beijing Capital and JW Marriott, but cheaper than Renaissance Wangfujing and Imperial Mansion.

Had an amazing stay for a 1 night overnight in October 2025 due to a delayed flight. Super old school luxury and got a nice complimentary suite upgrade as a Marriott Titanium. Chose the free breakfast amenity and was able to pre-book a 3rd person to join for a relatively low cost. Great fitness center and didn't have a chance to use the pool. No lounge but butler coffee/drinks on-demand was nice.

Relatively easy to access public transit but it was a decent walk from the nearest metro station.

Can anyone comment on the beds here? Are they actually the same soft and comfy models like most StR have or do they stock a super firm Chinese style mattress to cater to locals?

I recently had two reservations at The St. Regis Beijing in May and came away with a very positive impression overall.

Service
What stood out most was the consistency of the service. The management team was excellent throughout, and the stay felt well handled from start to finish. Staff across the property were professional, courteous, and responsive, which made a real difference during a work trip.

Room
I stayed in two different one-bedroom suites - both were spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. The decor is warm and classic, with a traditional luxury feel that fits the property well. Furnishings were comfortable and the sound insulation was quite good, which made it easy to work and rest.

Dining
Food and beverage was another strong point. The main restaurant offered an impressive range of both Western and Asian options at the buffet, and the quality was consistently solid. I especially appreciated the restaurant manager and head chef, both of whom were true professionals and took the time to accommodate personal dietary preferences with care.

Location
The location is excellent. The hotel sits in a very central part of Beijing and is well positioned between the main commercial areas. In practical terms, it was usually about 15 to 20 minutes by car to both the western financial district and the newer CBD area around China World, which made it especially convenient for work.

Fitness center
The fitness center is located in a separate section connected through the ground-floor corridor near the serviced apartment area. It has all the essential equipment and is perfectly usable, though it does feel a bit dated. The air conditioning was also not always as cool as it could have been unless specifically requested.

Overall, this was a comfortable and very well-managed stay. The hotel may show some age in places, but it remains well maintained, well located, and supported by a strong team. I would gladly recommend it to both business and leisure travelers visiting Beijing.

The CBD predates Financial Street by about 20 years, and the latter still hasn't gained much traction. But, I agree with you that the St Regis's location is pretty good to use as a base. And, Ritan Park is a great attribute.
