I stayed there last year and loved it (although the Westin was even better). Beautiful room, nice bathroom, etc. I assume you'd get breakfast as a platinum anyway (I think I slept through it). Service was good, although I didn't really ask for anything more than regular check-in and a shoeshine.

Thanks, we are in Beijing for 2 full days, have no plans on sleeping in..

All right, if it isn't going to save me time (whereas in Tokyo or London it would), I'll just hop a car at PEK.

I was mistaken, departure Monday is at noon, I'll ask the hotel what they advise but I suspect leaving at 8a will give me ample time for whatever the airport throws my way.

Still having a tough time decided between Marvelous Suite and Ambassador Suite. Similar sizes, but W does obviously look cooler/younger. Any views from SR Ambassador Suites that I should be aware of?

Thanks again - Jamie

-AEX to line 2 to jianguomen is the best way to play this (completely removes line 10 and line 1 from the equation)
-the transfer at dongzhimen is relatively benign, based on China standards
-I would guess this drill beats taxis timewise 35% of the time

All that having been said, I still maintain that taxis are a no-brainer wrt airport transit in this case.

First time visitor to Beijing. I will be visiting with my my two teenage sons starting this coming Monday through Friday. Any comments or suggestions about getting from PEK to the SRB around 5 p.m.? We usually try to take public transit when visiting a country, both for cost savings and to experience how the locals get around.

My understanding is that Beijing traffic is crazy and makes my hometown 405 Freeway in Los Angeles look like a quiet drive down a quaint country lane?

How much should a taxi cost from PEK to the SRB? Is this an option during Monday evening rush hour?

Is hailing a ride through Didi an option?

Thanks for the help.

We just got back from Beijing and what a wild ride it was.

We used our hotel to book a car for us. It took almost an hour and a half to from the airport to the hotel. We also used a tour company to take us around, not many people speak English even at tourist destination. Taxi drivers don't speak english either.
We loved our time there, and have started planning our return trip.

Does anyone have any details on the complimentary cocktails and hors d'houvres listed under the room rate, non Platinum guest.

Thanks.

Last time I was at this property they had a club lounge (only St Regis I know of with one). This is where Plats enjoyed their evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvre. I assume this is to what they are referring in your room rate.

stayed there last week- i didn't love it and probably wouldn't stay there again. as a platinum i was upgraded to a suite. first room smelled like pee and had broken air, i had to switch. they didn't de-feather my second room, and it was a fight to get them to do it. they forgot to send the car to pick up my colleague at the airport who came in the day after me, and they were difficult about getting a car there for her. getting cabs took a long time here- i normally stay at the kerry, and cabs show up in a few minutes. at the regis it would take 10 minutes.
otherwise, the breakfast was good (although the espresso was bad), the business center lounge was good for working, and the night time free drinks was enjoyable and a good way to wind down the day.

Sounds like there have been some disappointing experiences at this property recently, and my stay is to add to them. I have previously stayed here in 2015 or 2016 as a Plat and remember having a much more enjoyable stay.

I want to preface by mentioning that I think the St Regis Beijing is one of the best SPG properties in the city. I also arrived late, at around 01:00 for a one night stay, so I didn’t have an opportunity to take a look at the hors d'houvres -- which seems to be offered to many room types now, when it was previously just Suite guests and Plats. That said, here are some observations from my current stay:
  • On arrival at 01:00 it was around -7°C out and there was no one out the front of the property. I was watched by one of the night workers standing inside the lobby while we got our luggage out of the car, and was given a welcome when we finally got inside. I was taken aback that he didn’t come out to offer his assistance.
  • Upgraded to a Statesman Suite that, to my shock, didn’t have a king bed -- I believe it was a queen. Very unusual.
  • No mention of welcome amenity or welcome note found in the room. No fruit basket in the room.
  • No remote control for the TV in the mirror in the bathroom. The remote holder was present but remote was absent.
  • At checkout, we stored our luggage at the property as our flight wasn't till midnight. One of our luggage items was a fabric bag that has some sealed Cup Noodles in it. At first we were quite rudely told by the junior concierge that we can't store our bags because we had food, and after trying to reason with him that they were sealed, with no success, we had to escalate to the duty manager before we were given the ok. We had been carrying around these noodles for more than a week and had been to 4 other SPG properties that didn't seem to have a problem with us storing them temporarily. This event was the last interaction we had with the property and left a bad taste.
One of the best parts of this property is that you can actually control the temperature of your room, unlike the W Beijing in the next block. Many properties in Beijing have a central heating system and I find during winter it is set to unbelievably hot temperatures that makes it difficult to sleep. The STR Beijing allows you control the climate in your room (and the thermostat controls actually work).

Also, if you can spare 15 minutes I recommend taking the short walk to check out the gym and pool area. It's extremely spacious and from my experience always mostly empty. There is also a squash court on B2 under the Iridium Spa that had an eerie feeling to it.

Taxi from hotel to the airport cost CNY120.

So is there a club lounge or just free drinks in the bar for Plats? Do all guests get access to the club lounge for drinks? Is breakfast free for everyone too?

This has been answered in this thread, in fact, if you go up three posts from yours, someone talked about the Lounge.

Does anyone have an email address for the butlers/concierge at this property?

SHLTP Sep 23, 2018 6:17 pm

Isn't it insane that it is diffocult to find property email addresses now post Marriott acquisition? I jad to email CS today for email addresses.

This email address gets a response usually within a day. The main one can takes weeks. Ask the for STR email... I can"t figure out an easier way. So time consumimg

This hotel remains a solid option in Beijing. Rooms are starting to show it's age though. Carpeting is noticeably faded, and fabric covered furniture are stained and showing signs of wear. The color of the carpet they chose makes the room look more outdated, in my opinion. Think if they replace just that, the rooms would look alright. Service is still excellent - the concierges were incredibly helpful. The taxi situation has improved drastically due to their ability to call taxis via app, including inputting the destination for the customer in case you're worried about language difficulties.

Taxi from the airport mid-day was about 100 CNY. Breakfast in the restaurant is above average in terms of quality, but nothing to write home about other than their pastries. Lounge is open daily from 6-730pm and serves a good selection of appetizers. Had two absolutely spectacular dinners in their Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor.

Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great Value Luxury Hotel

Introduction Amazing hotel. Highly recommend for your stay in Beijing. Great price point. Great value! Check In The check in was smooth. I had applied and use an SNA for the Ambassador Suite and was awarded it for my stay there. I was welcomed for my loyalty and since I was staying on the FHR program, I got 1000 welcome points as a Bonvoy member. It was a quick check in and we were on our way. Room This is the Ambassador Suite. It was absolutely beautiful. I used an SNA to upgrade to it, and it was totally worth it. This was a date visit with my wife and we thought the room was really great. We had a living room area, dining room area and a desk area. The bedroom had a separate door which cut off the rest of the suite. The other thing that was great was the walk in closet. It was definitely great to see how the "other side" live, as I can see this being how the rich stay at most hotels out there. Bathroom This was a full suite and had two bathrooms. A half bathroom with a toilet and sink near the entrance and a full bathroom off the bedroom. Photos attached. First one is the half bathroom. I didn't have time to use the bathtub but it is the biggest one I have ever seen in a hotel room, and when we return to this hotel, I will have to make time to use the bath! Gym The gym was full of people, so I didn't take photos. This hotel also has serviced apartments as part of the complex and the gym is located on the side where these apartments are. It is a full size gym and very well equipped. I was able to maintain my normal workout regime on both days we were at the hotel, which is a rare find at most hotels, as they always have small gyms with only a bit of equipment. This one has enough to do a full work out. Service The service is exactly as you would expect at the St. Regis. The floor butler for my floor came around and introduced herself. My wife took advantage of the coffee/tea service while I was at the gym and they brought a most delicious tea. We didn't use their packing or unpacking service, but the butler was quick with responding to our needs. Ahh, yes, my wife wanted extra lotion, and the butler had housekeeping bring us extras within minutes. Excellent service! Dining We ate at the main restaurant for Friday buffet dinner. It was a little over $100US for two of us. The buffet itself was a bit disappointing for the price, and the steak that I got to choose was quite small. Perhaps only 70-80 grams, which isn't much. The quality of what we did get was very good.We also ate breakfast the next morning in the main restaurant and the selection was great. I felt that was a meal worth eating in that restaurant. On our next visit, we will most likely use the FHR $100 food credit on room service rather than the evening buffet as we can pick and choose foods we want to try rather than relying on a buffet that may or may not have what we like. Location We didn't pick this for the location, however, this is a mall nearby which is pretty unique, and the embassy/park area around this hotel is nice for walking outside if the weather is nice and the AQI within reason. The hotel is quite central to a lot of things, but location wasn't a factor in why we picked this hotel. Overall Overall we loved our stay. We had done the St.R in Tianjin previously and the two hotels are night and day different. The Beijing one is absolutely what a St. Regis should be. We are already thinking about our next visit. We really loved it that much. Thus far it is our favorite hotel in Beijing that belongs to Marriott. The luxury is comparable to the Four Seasons for 1/3 the price.

How was the club lounge?
