The only difference are the views. You booked Ocean View. It appears you've been upgraded to Oceanfront. It's strange that one states "full kitchen" while the other is "mini kitchen". With the same square footage the only difference should be the views. Enjoy!

Either they gave you the smaller side of a two bedroom, or moved you from a dedicated one bedroom.

Incorrect. Not sure why you are saying this.

The square footage is the same (740) as shown in the reservation details. The smaller unit is only 400 sq. ft.

Checked in yesterday. We did get upgraded to an Ocean Front 1 bedroom, in the 100 building nearest the ocean. As far as I can tell, it is the same size as the Ocean View 1 bedroom. Our room has a full kitchen and washer/dryer.

The property is nice and the staff have been very pleasant. We ordered food and drink to eat on the beach and the price wasn't too bad. The swimming pool water temp is a little hot, though there's probably nothing anyone can do about that.

I have checked several dates in September and October and there is availability to redeem this room. I would suggest you to call again and ask them to search for rate plan SPG4SS.

We're currently booked in April, 2015 in a studio on points as well. Just curious, how many points is the 1 Bedroom Villa?
Thanks!

Points required for 1 bd?

Was wondering the same thing, if someone knows off the top of their head. How many points required for a 1 bedroom? I see that the studio is 10k/night or a bit less if you do 5 nights with 1 free at least for July 2015. I also think it's ridiculous that a hotel uses the word "villa" to describe a "studio" room, despite the kitchenette.

The last time I checked, I think it was a mere 1500 points per night to upgrade to the larger 1 BR. From where I'm sitting, going from 400 ft sq to 740 ft sq for 1500 points a night is a steal.

3.) Dining recommendations totally depend on what you're looking for. Splashy world class options or family friendly? Cancun has a fairly wide array of dining options -- many of which are walkable from this property. One of my personal favorites is THAI -- it's essentially across the street from this hotel and the setting is absolutely incredible. Give us a little more direction in terms of what you're wanting and I'm sure folks can make strong recommendations.

4.) There are a small handful of VERY marginal casinos in CUN. Smart folks would steer clear unless, of course, you're just looking to dump money

^ + 1 regarding Thai. Have the concierge at the Westin book you one of the over the water palapas.

The Crab House a little way down the main drag from the hotel was also surprisingly good, given it's uninspiring name.

Like the previous posters have said there are lots of dining options within walking distance. The hotel's options are so so IMHO.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question regarding this property and upgrades:

I booked 3 rooms via Hotwire (very low rate, most likely Studios). Does anyone know if they would offer upgrades during check-in? I'm interested in upgrading one of the rooms.

If they do offer upgrades during check-in, does anyone know what price they offer?

I wonder if I might be able to use SPG points to upgrade (I doubt it).

Thanks

Are you asking about complimentary SPG room upgrades? If you booked through Hotwire those rates aren't eligible for any of the SPG member benefits.

If you want to pay for one with cash or points I guess your best bet is to email the hotel directly.

If the rates are that low isn't a Best Rate Guarantee in order ?

Yeah, I meat paying for the upgrade with cash or points. Usually when they see that the reservation is through Hotwire or Priceline they refuse to do anything, I've even had employees refuse to add notes to the reservations.

Just wanted to get an idea of what was the typical cost to upgrade at check-in. But I'll call tomorrow.

...BRG does not apply for 'opaque' providers like Hotwire or Priceline
