I am really glad to hear that post-renovation this place is getting good reviews.

Now I'm curious about the renovated rooms :D

This property had great staff when I was staying there in late 2006-summer 2007. Its nice to see that they are getting a quality hard product to go with their soft product.

One more thing

One more thing that I forgot to mention: there are 2 computers with printer downstairs in the "business center". Internet is free. Handy to check email and do your online check-in & print boarding passes. Online speed seemed fine when I used it.

Hey, hoping someone can help me:
looking to spend a weekend in DC. We prefer to stay within the SPG network, but am looking for a hotel with a swimming pool within the district. Am I correct in that this is the only hotel that has one? In addition, is this one of the few hotels that have a separate bath and shower? Right now we have a spa suite reserved at the Hotel Palomar but am seeing better rates at the WEstin grande so does anyone have any input?

Thanks!
chris

Did you read my review up thread? Most of your questions can be answered in that post. ;):) he he he.

Yes, it is the only properties in the district with a "pool" are the Westin Grand and Four Points. The Westin Grand's "pool" being the equivalent to a two lane lap pool. It's tiny and so is the deck area.

Every room I've been in at this property has a separate shower and tub.

If you want to stay on Dupont proper, then go with the Fairfax, but it doesn't have a pool. If you chose the Grand it is only a 5-10 min. walk up 21, 22, 23 or New Hamp Ave. to Dupont Circle area.

Has anyone stayed here lately? Anything new to add? Staying this weekend.

Westin Washington DC Review

Sorry all. I posted to the wrong Westin in DC. Should have been under Westin City Center in Washington DC. See the review here.

I stayed at this property 5/24-5/26. Upon check-in I asked for plat UG to a suite in which I was told there weren't any available due to the "length of my stay", but got UG'd to the "King Room with Chaise Lounge" which is a standard king room with a chaise, in case you want to lounge. No plat amenities provided. The room was old, but not terrible. Old, hollow core doors, some peeling paint/wallpaper. They put me on the 14th floor, which had a nice view of the office building next door, I presume because its the Elite level, but there is no club, just a sign.

I would caution anyone from staying on the 14th floor (in the vicinity of 1426 I believe) because it is directly under the 24 hour workout center!! The vibration from the exercise machines made it so ear plugs were ineffective, you could "feel" the sound. I got in late so I waited for the next morning to change rooms and the FD was shocked I was unhappy with the room. Never heard this complaint before. Now that I only had one night left, I asked again for the suite - nope. Got changed to a lower floor King that also has an in-room barco-lounger and a new view of the lower part of the office building.

I like to use the metro when I am in DC. Unfortunately, the hotel is equidistant between 2 metro stations and a good 3 blocks to either one, not conducive in a suit during a humid day or rain.

I did not try the restaurant but the bar food was sufficent, the drinks were measured pours for $9 (a real peeve of mine).

Hope this helps...

Old rooms? They just renovated this property a few years ago. Also this property only has 6 suites.

The gym on 15? Was the gym moved?

Checked in two days ago on a C+P stay. No status. Got a nice big corner room on the 3rd floor.

Property is showing its age (lounger extremely dirty and paint scraping off bathroom door) and I had to ring for bathrobes and bathroom slippers.

Nice property and location overall. Lots of decent restaurants within short walking distance. But have to take the metro to the Mall.

I stayed here a few weeks back. I asked for compensation (for breakfast) since they don't have a lounge, was told no. Should I persue?

No you should not since a lounge is not a guaranteed platinum benefit and neither is free breakfast.

I thought lounge access was guaranteed if there was one. The problem is that in this case this is not one.

NO as this property does not have a lounge. Did you do any research - here or on the website - before booking? Breakfast is not a Platinum amenity, so you were rightfully turned down.

Yes lounge access is guaranteed if platinum, no matter what floor your room is located.
