Just received a rather weird message from the hotel. I have booked two nights in October and had written to the hotel advising that we need to fit two small children, and would prefer to be upgraded to a room in tower two if available. I received the following reply:
Upgrade for room types booked in Tower One are provided in the same tower subject to availability.
However I can offer you a special difference in rate of AED 300+20% Taxes per room per night to a Premier Room in the Tower Two
(Our Premier rooms are the latest addition to the Grosvenor House rooms portfolio located in our new tower. It features 43 SQM of luxury comfort and equipment; 47 inch LCD TV, Ipod dock and touch screen control panel for AC and lightings.
Our rooms offer you an exclusive access to Level 5 executive business lounge where complimentary breakfast but also all day bites and pre dinner drinks await you.
On top of that, we would be pleased to include complimentary airport transfers to and from Dubai intl airport, valued at aed 380 per car per way.
The Premier rooms offer you Bvlgari bathroom amenities as well as complimentary wi fi throughout your stay.
Extra benefits include obviously free access the hotel facilities: gym, spa and exclusive restaurants but also access to Le Royal Meridien Pool and Beach.)
If you choose to upgrade to the Premier Room, the upgrade to the next category Suite will be in the Tower Two.
Is this normal ? I mean can they simply say half of their rooms are excluded from upgrades ? And if I don't pay the extra 300 I won't be able to use the lounge ? I am a bit confused now...grateful if anybody could provide some insight.

The lounge in Tower ONE is closed.the new lounge is open in Tower TWO. Take the elevator to "LEVEL 5".You need a extra access card. The new lounge is the world's best by starwood.

Great hotel - both location (construction isn't that big of a deal) AND the food. The main restaurant has a killer breakfast and weekend buffet. One of the best in the city...

Wow, really? The Grosvenor Club on the 44th floor is closed? What does the new lounge look like? So if you stay in the original tower you have to walk over to the other tower to visit the lounge???

Excellent stay for 2 nights paid. Upgraded to Premier Executive Suite in Tower 2, but were told this was a lucky break (normal upgrade is in same tower as booked). When entering room we found that one chair was slightly torn and a half-empty bottle of wine was in the fridge. We called not to complain but rather to inform (so we would not be held responsible for damaging the chair). What followed was a huge apology and an amazing bouqet of flowers - almost too much !
Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Lounge (called level 5 in tower 2) has an all-day service (until 8pm) of several hot and cold dishes - worked as a full board for us. Tasty food, great service, and nice cocktails in the evening.
Only slight downsides were noise from the pool bar in the evenings ( we were 3 levels above and music was very loud) and the pool facilities that are probably sub-par (not huge and getting little sun). Other than that great stay.

So i just booked a C&P stay for Dec. Only could select this room choice:
1 Room, 1 Adult per room, 1 King, Smoking
Room Features: Deluxe Room , Butler Service , Bulgari Bathroom Amenities , 42 Inch Lcd Tv , Free Wi-fi Internet
So am I in Tower 1 or Tower 2? And as a Plat do we get free breakfast? Or is it just in the lounge?

Wow
A trip report. Ive read great things about this property and wanted to check it out...
Having previously stayed at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach -- a poor, poor stay I have always read amazing things about the Platinum treatment at GH so wanted to check it out. Booked a great Beat-the-Timer rate for around $199US last weekend- 3 nights in a standard room in Tower 1. The day before our arrival I noticed we had been upgraded to a suite -- and it said airport transfers included. So I emailed them and they said airport transfers are normally included with club rooms that are booked, but not when you are upgraded -- however they offered to honor it without me saying anything.
This truly is an amazing place. Having traveled the world with Starwood I can safely say this is the best service-- by far. This isn't the most beautiful property, though it is nice -- but the service is unmatched. I've never seen so many employees just waiting to help you. If you ask someone a question at the hotel -- anyone, be it a janitor or front desk staff, they will stop what they are doing and literally walk you to where you are going or what you need. And this is not a tipping culture-- so it's not even like they are expecting tips. I gave out a few and it was incredibly awkward, because they seemed so surprised...Every time you get off an elevator in the lobby, there is someone waiting to help you.
We had a room in Tower 1- the old tower. Upgraded to a nice corner suite. Very nice room with a small kitchen thing. The only annoying thing is the Lounge is in tower 2, so you have to cross towers. Now, for the Lounge. Just amazing. It is honestly like a 4 star restaurant. You could survive eating a great dinner there every night if you wished. This is not one of those Starwood properties where they put out soup and crackers -- there are chefs. And alcohol is free from 6pm-8pm.
The pool here is not great, but the Spa is fantastic with very reasonable prices-- (80 Euro for a long message, compared to other Starwoods where it is 150 Euro). To get to the beach you take a short shuttle to the Le Meridian. You could walk this, but you may be placing your life in your hands trying to cross these Dubai streets.
The one bad thing...terrible wi-fi. And this is kind of a business hotel, which is crazy. I mean, you have to go stand in certain locations to get a signal, then it drops you and each time you have to sign in with your code. Very, very poor in this day and age.
Overall, just amazing service. And a very upscale property. Has some of the hotest places in town with Buddha Bar and some other new club.

What is the difference in room quality between the old and new towers?
Do the rooms in the old tower have separate showers and bathtubs (something that must be met for me to consider a hotel good)?
Are the old tower rooms run down?
