The rooms are fine with Heavenly Beds/Showers. All brand new.
|
Stayed there about 3 months ago and it is nice. Got a High corner room uprade as I am Platinum. Had dinner at Shulas but wouldnt recommend it as there are much better steak places near by. Sparks being my personal favorite.
I like the Sheraton NY Towers better. Normally upgraded to a suite as a platinum and it has a much nicer club. |

There are a number of threads about this hotel, as it is quite popular. When you are in the Starwood forum, if you look toward the upper right-hand corner of the thread list you will see a blue box titled "Search This Forum." Click on that and you can search exclusively within the Starwood forum for info about anything. I typed in "Westin Times Square" and came up with the threads below to help get you started. Good luck! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175935 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=413554 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411942 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=410689 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=406457 |
I live near this Westin and have had my parents stay there a couple of times. They're always pleased with it -- especially the fact that they seem to have triple-pane glass in there so even though it's in Times Square, it's not noisy AT ALL.
My fiance's father prefers the W Times Square, however. |

As I stated in a post that mysteriously vanished, I've stayed at this hotel a few times and enjoyed my stays there.
I'm curious to know what the "disturbing facts" about the hotel were (mentioned in the OP). Were they anything the rest of us would need to know, or merely someone's opinions and/or disappointed expectations? |
I am unaware of what the disturbing facts might be other than the hotel is not technically located in Times Square. With that said, it is on the corner of 42nd Street (across from the Port Authority Bus Terminal) but is a very nice, quiet, and comfortable property.
The only Starwood property actually located in Times Square is the W -Times Square. Enjoy your stay and kudo's on the 40th b-day to your husband. |
....
Not sure what you mean by "disturbing facts". I have stayed at the Westin Time Square 3 times this year, and the hotel is fine for what it is - a stylish, relatively luxurious property with great location, nice rooms, good service..... and a lousy club lounge.
For my money, I will take this over the Sheraton Towers. The club at the Sheraton may be better, but the room is not as nice. |
I would debate the good service part. The staff are known to lie often.

The reason for this request is that through the examples it a) gives your post credence and b) assists future travellers when making plans and c) enables *wood to know if there are issues with a particular property. ldsant *wood Moderator |
I stay at this property frequently, and I have been quite pleased with it. The rooms are spacious, at least by New York standards. The location is excellent, and room service food is better than most other nearby properties. I haven't eaten in Shula's, but I suspect that there are better steak house choices out there, such as Del Frisco.
New York hotels seem to get a lot more wear and tear than properties of comparable age in other cities. Even though this property is only about four years old, most of the rooms I've gotten show signs of considerable wear and tear -- stains, chipped furniture, etc. Even on the SPG-reserved upper floors. That's just a New York thing in general, though. The service is a bit surly, but again, that's New York for you. If you want warm and fuzzy, you probably won't find it in the 212 area code. Whatever you do, stay away from the twin Sheratons up around 53rd. Both are severely run down, and the poor ventilation makes each stay borderline tortuous. |
good stays at both Westin and W Times Sq

if you're not set on Times Sq., the W Court or Tuscany are both very nice, more subdued, great service due to smaller scale. But more residential neighborhood feel and you might want the jazz of Times Sq. |
Westin New York Times Square [Master Thread]
I booked one night at Westin TS on Aug (sunday night) and found some information about the room selection. I did find one thread about it and had further questions from that thread.
It looks like there are three choices (definitely, there are other standard rooms available, though. Also, I do know it is truly not a matter of choice, but matter of luck). 1. Club Room (10-16 floor): larger than standard room and Club lounge access, but no view. 2. Corner Room (at higer floor... like xx09): much better view, larger than standard, luxurious amenites (than suite?), but no access to Club lounge (?). 3. Jr. Suite (at higher floor.... like xx10): It is a suite (assming larger than standard, and club room). But, someone told in the thread that (s)he prefers corner room over suite (according to him/her, corner room amenities are better than suite, anyone confirm it?). Given the choices, what would you prefer? If I stay at either suite or corner room, is there a way I can access the Club lounge (I am not a platinum, mere gold)? How much the club room bigger than corner room? How much suite bigger than corner room? I called front desk and asked the size. They told me that standard room is 3xx sq. over 4xx sq (suite). I don't know if this is true. This is my family trip (with 2 kids). So, I need bigger space (hopefully with a good view). But, if lounge access is possible, I want to take it. It seems to me that a lot of FT members stayed this hotel. Please advise me what to get (or try to get). Thanks for your advice in advance. |
I've only stayed there a few time and always in club level rooms (14-15) with no view. In my experience you can't bank on any upgrade.
The club level rooms are "normal" size rooms for any city other than NYC. Regarding access to the club lounge, you can always pay to get access at $16/person, but the breakfast and apps they serve are not worth it. Good luck! |
spicy, last time I stayed here, one could get free high-speed internet access in the lounge (ok, it was timed...every 30min a user was logged off, and I had to complete a 1min survery to get back on), so I found the lounge useful if not memorable otherwise.
You're right about the foodstuff - it was not too memorable, but at NY street prices, probably was worth this fee. I was PLAT and was not charged. My info is 2+ summers old, so undoubtably things have changed. |
