If you want to save many Euros and don't have a lot of luggage the Alilaguna boat runs from the Airport to San Marco until midnight. The stop at San Marco is about 2 blocks from the hotel, but has a lot of small steps, so not for the faint of heart with luggage.
Use the money you save from a costly water taxi (80+ Euro) on a nice dinner in Venice.

Thx for the replies all.
If I can save some money it'll be great but I read , correct me if i'm wrong, that alilaguna takes 1+ hours to get from the airport to the san macro;Versus taking a water taxi directly to the hotel takes ~20 min. I think I'll bite the bullet and use the water taxi, since it's quicker and more convinient.
So any recent stays? feedbacks?
Thx! ^

I think the water taxi takes longer than that, but perhaps I'm wrong. But there is no doubt that it's faster and more convenient than the other options.

depending on the route and season the alilaguna can for sure take 1+ hours.
FYI: Starwood has a booth at VCE, lower level, near the car rental booths where if staffed the agent can advise on your transport options into their lagoon properties.

We stayed there is May and really enjoyed the location. We were upgraded to a canal view and were escorted to our room and given a tour of the property upon arrival. The concierge organized a free tour of a Murano glass manufacturer on the island of Murano. A free private taxi boat ride was included in the tour. Rooms are a bit small as one would expect for Venice but elegantly decorated with marble bathroom, in-room bar, etc. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

Allowing for the time you may need to wait for the next alilaguna service at the airport and the time taken to walk from the San Marco stop to the hotel, this journey will be closer to 2 hours than 1.
As well as being quicker and more convenient, the water taxi is the way to arrive in Venice in style : they're usually beautiful polished wood with leather interiors, so if you can justify Eur100 (vs Eur15 each for alilaguna) for the trip, then go for it.

Hertz
I will be driving into VCE and would like to return my car before getting to the W E&R. Does anyone know which Hertz station is the closest and how to get from there to the hotel?
Thanks!

You can probably find this information from Hertz, but it looks like there is one in the Piazzale Roma, which is the unappealing parking lot that you end up in when you drive into Venice. You can catch a vaporetto from there (see above postings, you probably want line 82, or line 1 if you prefer the scenic route; be sure to get the one going in the right direction!) If you want to burn cash you can take a water taxi.

Westin Europa & Regina, Venice: Gold Benefits?
Recognizing that all hotel programs are getting less generous, I was wondering if anyone has recently stayed here and did you receive any Gold benefits worth mentioning? I have booked 2 award nights there for Sept 2008 and would like to know if Golds get any benefits like comp breakfasts, room upgrades etc. Can anyone shed any light on this matter? Thanks

Clarification Please re Getting Luggage from Airport to Water Taxi
I've read the various postings about how to get from the airport to the E & R via water taxi. Could someone shed some light on how to get one's luggage to the water taxi landing? I read that it is a 10-15 minute walk but nowhere did I read about how to get one's luggage to the water taxi. Are there porters or what? I also read that Starwood had a booth at VCE; can one make arrangements at the booth to transport luggage to the various hotels? Thanks

Can anyone tell me if the Alilaguna the same as the Vaporetti? What is the difference between time and cost?
I can't tell based on some of the research I've done. For as many tourists as they receive, I'm surprised how difficult it is to find any clear information on travel sites. Such a difference from my last trip to Japan. The JNTO is a model for the rest of the world~
