Decided to stay at the Sheraton.
Thoughts.

Decent hotel. Appears to have just recently gone non-smoking as the rooms still had a lingering smoke smell (maybe just people violating policy).
Got upgraded to Club level as a Gold but had to request.
Club level had hot eggs and sausage for breakfast then an assortment of fruit, pastries, and cereal plus the standard beverages.
Missed the happy hour snacks.
No beverages or food any other times of the day.
Room a little small for standard room but maybe that is typical in AC.

Would stay there again on points or cash/points as a good value that way.

Just checked in - on 16th floor (club level) - rooms fine. So far so good

stayed there a few months ago. decent hotel. My biggest complaint is I can't understand why it's not well oriented towards Arkansas Ave where all the shops are. You have to like walk through the shrubs, unless you want to loop all the way around the hotel (pass the brew pub) which makes no sense. other than that, its fine place.

The hotel was built long before the "Atlantic City Outlet - The Walk"

The Walk

It used to be a dark and scary walk from the Sheraton to the Boardwalk.

Have to say that all in all I enjoyed my stay at the Sheraton

I personally thought that the fact that it wasn't "on the walk" was actually an advantage. The only thing I couldn't understand - as mentioned by others - is why the parking costs more than double than anywhere else (which are also more central)
Excellent shopping nearby

2 weeks ago I booked a "last minute" New Years Eve award stay here at 7000 points since some friends will be down there and I have no other plans. Will be checking in tomorrow for a 1 night stay.

Yesterday I noticed that my reservation shows a suite upgrade with a jacuzzi. Checking the hotel web site, it appears the suites with Jacuzzi's are the "VIP suites", which look to be a step above the standard suites. Cha Ching! Will post back later.

I stayed here the year the hotel opened (1999), which is also when the adjacent convention center opened. At the time I was brand new to the SPG program, and in fact that might have been my first stay of my membership. But, that was long before I knew about FT so I did not post a trip report. :)

To follow up my prior post -

I stayed at the AC Sheraton last night for New Years. My brother (also a Plat) also stayed there. He arrived earlier in the afternoon and asked for an upgrade. The desk clerk had some initial confusion since there were two of us (same last name), and switched him into MY pre-assigned suite and bumped me back to a standard King!!! He told me this hours before I arrived, so I called my Starwood Ambassador and asked her to just call the hotel and see if they have any other suites to move me to (or a room with 2 beds) since I had a 2nd person in my party who wanted his own bed.

She called me back a few minutes later and said the GM put me in the Presidential Suite!! It was huge. 1750 square feet, according to spg.com, and it looked like it. Top floor corner suite with a huge living room, foyer, dining room, full 5 stool bar, powder room, an extremely large King bedroom and a equally huge bathroom with two sinks, large shower with body jets and jacuzzi. This might be one of the nicest/hugest suites I've ever been in.

Now the downsides:

1.) The presidential suite has just a King. The huge living room doesn't even have a pull out sofa. So, I called and requested a rollaway around 8pm. They said it would $20, but I asked them to verify this with the manager since we initially needed a room that had 2 beds. We went out and didn't come back until about 4am to a suite with no rollaway. :( I called down again and they sent one up, but the lack of follow through 8 hours prior on their part was a little annoying when we just wanted to go to sleep.

2.) Parking is $20 valet or $13 self service. The casinos are mostly $5. That's a huge difference.

3.) The club lounge was not open but they were serving club floor customers (and plats) a cold continental breakfast in one of the ballrooms. Sadly, however, the bagels/breads were stale and many of the yogurts had expiration dates that had passed within the last week or so.

Overall, the hotel is clean and nice. The staff was friendly, and the point redemption (7000 points) makes it a decent alternative when the casino hotels are charging too much.

Good Value in A/C

I stayed last Friday (Jun 18) on C+P ($45+2,800). I wasn't in town to gamble, but rather to watch the LPGA ShopRite Classic golf tournament at the nearby Dolce Seaview in Galloway Township.

Gold status was acknowledged at check-in although I did have to request if any upgrades were available. I wasn't expecting much given it was Friday. I was moved to a Deluxe room on the third floor. It seems X00 and X01 are considered Deluxe as they are slightly larger and located at the end of the hallway (facing the expressway).

I was concerned because we were literally 100 feet from the Atlantic City Expressway. However, the combination of sound proofing and air conditioning 'hum' seemed to cancel all noise. My wife is an extremely light sleeper and she didn't have any problems.

Room was spotless. Bathroom seemed oversized. Nice flat panel TV although the channel selection was limited. Refrigerator/Microwave combo was really 'cheap' looking, it brought back memories of my college dorm. They were not built-in to the furniture but were stand-alone - - - almost a design afterthought.

Self-park was $14/day in the adjacent convention center. Valet was $20/day.

We didn't eat, drink, swim or exercise at the hotel, so no comments on those services.

It is a short cab ride to any of the casinos. Walking distance to the White House Sub Shop. Also very convenient to the many quality golf course in the greater Atlantic City area.

I've stayed before and would stay again, especially for C+P.

I received a phone message from the hotel saying they are looking forward to my arrival this weekend. Never had that before. A nice touch.

Sheraton Atlantic City Parking

hi!
I recently booked a 7000 points for Sat stay. . Thought too much , but have a Concert that night at Ceasers.

I read the parking is around $14 , is there any cheaper outside parking in walking distance.

I am just 'Preferred Guest' level, any chance of getting upgrades if asked and showoff to my wife ;)

Thanks in advance.
Regards,

$14 is NOT expensive for parking in AC on a Saturday night (well, parking for a non (casino) status patron, that is ;) )

littlemookie Nov 1, 2010 2:11 pm

Just finished a quick 1 night stay on Saturday night.

I used C+P which is a very good deal at this hotel. 2800 points + $45. Most AC hotels for Sat night is $150+. Parking was full so I used a casino parking lot ($5 and walked about 5-10 min). Parking is still $14 at the Sheraton. I am only SPG Gold so did not expect an upgraded room and did not receive one.

The rooms are fine, with my basic room having a decent size bathroom and a flat screen TV. The staff was excellent, acknowledging status and granting my request for a 4pm checkout without question.

It's a great hotel for cash and points when AC hotels are expensive. Mid-week rates at the casino's are usually cheaper than the Sheraton and with the Sheraton itself around $100 a night mid-week, seems to be an expensive use of 7,000 Starpoints.

How did you like the clientele this weekend ;)

Sheraton Atlantic City

Atlantic City casino's have high weekend rates, and I heard this was a good place to stay on points as an alternative. On paper the value is pretty good at over .03 cpp. The hotel is Cat 3, and a Saturday night runs between $210 - $300 usually.

I gave it a shot and thought it was pretty awful. The walls were thin, the rooms were sub par for SPG properties, and the food at the hotel restaurant was terrible. Being right next to the convention center didn't help too much either, there was a big cheer-leading competition , a lot of the competitors were staying at the Sheraton. I'm looking to go back to AC soon and still want to consider this place, but given my experience I'm having trouble bringing myself to doing it again. Has anyone here had a better experience?

I think your post sums up my experiences at the hotel nicely. It's a good place for points or even cash when you want to go to AC on the weekends when all the nice hotels are super expensive. But other than a place to sleep, it's nothing special.

I've never eaten at the hotel or really done anything other than sleep and it's met all my expectations. So my advice would be if you're going to stay out late in AC and just need a place to come back to late at night to sleep, I would recommend it. But if you're going to hang out at the hotel during the day on a multiple day stay or if you want to eat at your hotel I would look elsewhere.
