Residence Inn New York Downtown Manhattan/World Trade Center Area destination fee

Was looking to book this using points and saw during checkout that there's a $25 destination fee.

Anyone know what this is about? At least the Marriott next door advertises what it's for (while still burying the fact that it's mandatory). The Residence sneaks this up on you during checkout and provides absolutely zero information about what it is.

Hi,

Doing a dummy booking this is what is shown

It is shown under the govt taxes and fees line as a separate line

Daily destination fee of 25.00 includes activities etc

No further breakdown ( other hotels i think do print more details and provide more benefits

If not quoted at the time of making the reservation you may have a case for not paying it?

Regards

welcome to NYC

Avoid the tax by staying at the Marriott near Wall Street on gov't rate.,

I mean there are other hotels that don’t charge this. The AC downtown doesn’t charge it, the Residence at JFK doesn’t either.

I decided to message the hotel over iMessage and got this response:
1. A $25 daily Food and Beverage credit applies to our 24 hours market in the Lobby.
2. 75-minute Liberty Harbor Cruise (2 guests per stay)
3. 2 tickets for the 9/11 memorial museum for 2 guests per stay
4. A Financial District Tote with 2 water bottles and 2 granola bars
5. Daily Starbucks tea and coffee for 2 guests
6. Daily Lyft bikes for 2 guests
7. Daily enhanced hi-speed internet
Apparently this goes into effect on April 1. Not a bad deal frankly for a one-night stay.
