Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara, Japan, opened Sep 2023 [Master Thread]
Mori Trust, that operates a significant number of Marriot hotels in Japan (JW Marriott Nara, Toranomon Edition Tokyo, (if it ever opens) Ginza Edition Tokyo, Tokyo Marriott, to name a few) have announced that they will open a Luxury Collection hotel in Nara. It is scheduled to open in summer 2023, so quite soon.
It will be called Shi Sui, and 翠 Sui is the brand of a group of hotels by Mori Trust, this will be the third after Suiran in Kyoto and Iraph Sui in Miyako Island Okinawa. Both operated by Mori Trust as well.
The link is only in Japanese, but Chrome will do a decent job of translating.

I am already semi planning a trip to Nara, as both Suiran and Iraph Sui are great hotels, so I have high expectations. And Nara is a nice destination.

This is now showing up as Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara. Although it says opening in August 2023, it would not take a reservation for October or November yet.

Probably waiting until they truly know that they will open and have not delays before they release the bookings.

According to google maps, it appears that the location of this hotel was previously the official residence for the governor.
it is close to nara park and tadai-ji, so great location for tourists. (much better located than JW Marriott)

Ben Schlappig has a review out for anyone who is interested:

Looking at other reviews (in both English and Japanese), the check-in and dining experiences seem to be very spotty, and I feel like it might be worth waiting a bit to see if they can work out their operational kinks.
