How to avoid Marriott grabbing the highest value certificate?

I have several certificates in my account, for 25K, 35K & 40K points.

When I go to make an award booking at a hotel that costs 25K, Marriott defaults to one of the higher value certificates or gives me the option of deducting 25K points.

How do I force it to select a 25K certificate for a 25K redemption?

make three bookings using the three certificates at three different hotels. book the 25k hotel last at the hotel you want to use it at. cancel the other two and the certs will be returned. make sure the reservations are far enough out.

it's such a shame that marriott's IT is so bad that it forces you to jump through hoops like this.

Arent you able to select the different certificates at checkout? I dont have two certs in my account as of right now to check but found some screenshots from frequent miler which is consistent with how I remember it to be, unless the system changed.

Unless things have changed, it's extremely painful to call Marriott. Takes a while to get to an actual agent, then I have to hope the agent knows what he/she is doing. I personally much rather jump through the hoops to book and cancel reservations online as outlined several posts back.

The other problem is that half the time the certs dont automatically get redeposited, and you have to call in to get them returned. Oh Marriott

This has been my experience. Mrs. Slpybear and myself book our award stays online and select the cert as shown above.
