these two hotels for sure are playing games… maybe no one complained (yet) because Taiwan is mostly locked down but I remember specifically the Penghu property didn’t even have revenue rates available precovid even though they were selling rooms on OTA.

Why are these two properties in Taiwan never available for award stays?

Clear to me. Marriott limits the blackout dates to dates occurring on the Gregorian calendar.

You have to wonder if the Taiwan hotels are merely a oversight. No award rooms at all, seems to be someone messed up allocating booking inventory and never realized it.

Hi myperks,

The Sheraton Taitung Hotel advised that they had opened rooms for award redemption before June 2022. The rooms for redemption may have been fully booked if they are not available on website. Regarding the room availability after June 2022, the hotel has not set up yet. You may check later.

Regarding Four Points by Sheraton Penghu, we remains checking with the hotel team and will share with you once we have the update.

Thank you for the updates.

But if a property doesn’t have ANY rooms open for redemption EVER, that means they are playing games, not because the redemption rooms are booked already. Seems like an escalation to corporate, if possible, but with your response, seems like you are taking the property’s word as final.

Agree on this as there have never been rooms available for redemption in the past 2 years. Every other Marriott property in Taiwan has available rooms so these 2 properties are definitely playing games. I seriously doubt these properties are fully booked all the time.

It is interesting that both these properties are category 2 but the cash rate is usually high. I am sure that has something to do with it.

NYC hotels were definitely playing games this past weekend! I had booked the Edition TS a couple of months ago and then leading up to the stay several hotels suddenly became available. Naturally when I was past the window to cancel the Edition both of the hotels i preferred over the Edition opened up for award stays.

Yes, the going rates for the two properties appears to be 4277 TWD / ~155 USD (Sheraton) and 5253 TWD / ~190 USD (Four Points). At the standard Category 2 award rate of 12,500 points, that would be 1.2 - 1.5 cents per point, which is significantly more than the average of ~0.7 cents per point. My guess is that these hotels are small enough / not important enough that they can play games with award inventory while flying under the radar.

Interestingly, the hotels are only accepting reservations through mid-April (Four Points) and June (Sheraton), so I wonder if they're either leaving Marriott or becoming quarantine hotels (or something like that).
