The Socialist, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark [Master Thread]
Marriott seems to have a new property in its fold that is called The Socialist. It’s a Tribute Portfolio hotel in Copenhagen and has less than 40 rooms. Category 7 award pricing (for now).
Any reports about how the property is with Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador BonVoy members?

I am getting my popcorn ready for a hotel in Copenhagen, and just noticed this pop up in my Marriott search. It’s priced about the same as some of the better Choice-affiliated hotels in Copenhagen but below Nimb and Hotel D’Angleterre prices.

LOL...I'd love it the price paid is much less than what I'm getting, and they don't call me one. Bonus if the food is free too, and will even warrant a tip if the XO is on the house. And, if no tipping for bell hops, maids and bartenders--I'd probably make it an annual family sojourn.

Even breakfast doesn’t seem to be included for all guests; and so not all can count on “free food” even for breakfast at this property.
Wait staff, bartenders and bell desk staff in Copenhagen make a living wage without having to rely upon tips, and this hotel is unlikely to be any different in that regard than the other major brand affiliated hotels in Copenhagen. So I will ordinarily continue with my regional habit of not tipping beyond perhaps rounding up the bill.

The Socialist, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel was previously the Hotel Herman K. The adaptive reuse of the circa-1963 transformer station is from 2018.

I have not figured out why the new name is The Socialist. I assume it's a play on the social activities that the hotel encourages, not a political statement.

The Plat breakfast was limited to the Socialist breakfast: coffee or(!) juice, two eggs the way you like it, with toast (not sure if fries, too) and a nice bowl of fruit+berries. At first it seemed skimpy, but we continued selecting the same option and only ended up paying to get coffee and juice (real, pressed orange juice).
Every time when walking into/out of the Socialist, there was a strong satisfaction about its location and thereby "aren't we lucky we did not pick the Marriott this time". Magasin du Nord across the street and metro station at Kongens Nytorv just a block away.

We had a long weekend stay about a week after they opened. A superb Plat upgrade to a suite with windows to the street and to the courtyard (there even a small balcony, but the opposite wall only a few meters away). Enter the room - turn right to the bedroom, turn left to the living room; worked beautifully when we invited family/friends for a quick visit. Judging from the emptyish restaurant at breakfast time, the hotel cannot have been particularly full (which would speak for the great upgrade).

Could it be that the people behind this place just hired the wrong consultants or interns? Did they really mean to name it the Socialist, or is that a poor translation of the Socialite? Like, why on earth wouldn't you call yourself the Socialite instead, given the option?
