Marriott Bonvoy Announcement :

As travel evolves, were here to offer you more flexibility and options, including:

Your 2019 earned status, which we already renewed through February 2022, or your 2020 status, will be extended through February 2023. Youll continue to receive your Elite benefits when you travel again.

Extending Suite Night Awards and Free Night Awards Through June 2022
Were extending eligible Suite Night Awards and eligible Free Night Awards through June 30, 2022. Certain hotels have resort fees. Terms Apply. Plus, coming in early 2022, if you have a Free Night Award certificate, you can combine it with up to 15,000 points from your account (or that youve purchased) to access even more hotel and resort stay options.

Pausing Points Expiration Through December 2022
We're pausing the expiration of points through December 31, 2022. At that time, your points will only expire if your account has been inactive for at least 24 months.

More Redemption Flexibility
In March 2022, well introduce new flexible point redemption rates that move more closely in line with hotel rates, giving you additional options. Hotels and resorts will still have a minimum and maximum number of points for redemption rates that will more closely align to how theyre categorized today.

Our current redemption process with hotel categories will remain in place through February 2022. After that, you wont see hotel categories (18) or redemption rates classified as Off-Peak, Peak, or Standard.
You can look forward to these updates in your account by December. Read more about all the program updates and even more ways to unlock everything Marriott Bonvoy has to offer: marriottbonvoy.com/Status22.

Dynamic pricing is terrible news but expected since they basically told us it was going to happen beforehand

[EDIT- I believe Marriott Lurker here posted that the change below already starts March 22....]

From the above link:
  • Starting in 2023, there will be no more limits on award pricing across the board

Thinking of properties say some US RCs where you can easily spend 90k during peak nowadays, that sounds like a potential big 'oouch'...

I am good with the status extension, of course.

I think the headline here should have been impending devaluation and change to a rebate program. I look forward to cancelling my cards next year!

The programs need to give it a rest with "more flexibility" - call it what it is: a devaluation. Get less for more!

Could you please let us know what this means for travel packages, which are assigned a category rather than a points value? If there are no more hotel categories how can we know which properties can be booked with a category x certificate?

The beginning of the end......

Dynamic pricing is the future when travel resumes pre-pandemic volumes.

So if I renew my status in 2021 will it be valid until Feb/2024?

Revamped redemption - well, the devil is in the details, but I don't have high hopes for improvement for the traveller.

For those of us that use points exclusively for stays at aspirational properties this is likely to be a major devaluation. Book 'em before March folks...

This is pretty BS, especially for people that have been travelling for the past year. Oh yeah, the new revamped redemption sucks as well.

The one pretty big positive change is that free night awards can be augmented by 15,000 in points. The rest seems pretty poor. Overall points are becoming things to collect as a byproduct of stuff you already to do rather than currency you want to actively collect
