My goodness. My intention wasn’t to complain. My frustration is that I didn’t get points for both nights. They are two different reservations, two different rooms and two different invoices. I don’t care about the nights.
The Marriott rep said I would receive points for both rooms, but I did not receive them. I was simply looking for FlyerTalk advice or productive opinions. you can get points for both rooms if you paid for both of them. Easiest is to have these on one single bill, but a good agent can fix this retroactively. Again, only if you paid for both. |
Yes, I paid for both reservations

As MSPeconomist notes, there are technical reasons why the second room didn't generate Points for you. Here are the Terms and Conditions explaining the which Qualifying Charges generate Points (emphasis mine):
----- Charges incurred during a stay in a guest room at a Participating Property by a Member on his/her folio and up to two (2) additional guest rooms, including, without limitation, charges for: A. Qualifying Rates for Stays; B. Food and beverages (excluding alcoholic beverages where prohibited by law) and may exclude charges incurred at outlets that are not managed or operated by the Participating Property; C. Direct-dialed in-room telephone and direct-dialed in-room fax; D. In-room movies and video games; provided the Member provides his/her Membership Number at the time of reservation or at check-in, stays in one of the reserved guest rooms, and pays for the charges. Source: https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi#earn ----- Regarding the bolded conditions, it sounds like you meet the last two. Did you provide your membership number on the second reservation or at check in? If you did, you should be getting Points. As you've discovered with this thread, clarity matters. Many of us assumed you were talking about Nights because you specifically used that word and the response you quoted addressed that fact. If you did provide your membership number as required for that second room, let Marriott know and ask for those Points. Don't use the term Nights because that will likely generate a similar response to what you already received. An easier way to resolve this would be to call the hotel during normal business hours (wait until Monday) and ask them to issue points for the second room. A call will be quicker than waiting for an email response. Plus, if the person starts mentioning the restriction regarding Nights, you can immediately tell them you're only looking for Points. |

I want points and nights for both reservations. Ugh
As noted above, you can receive points but not nights. What you quoted from customer service is correct - you should earn 14 nights, not 18 nights. The Customer Service quote says nothing about points. If you didn't earn points for both stays, you should respond that you accept that you should only receive 14 nights but the points that you should earn are missing. |

Since you physically can't stay in two different rooms simultaneously, you can only get Night credits for one room.

Simultaneously, no. But I can certainly stay in two different rooms the same night.
I booked a stay in NYC for two nights ending on Saturday. Saturday evening I plan to stay in Philadelphia for 2 nights. There's a slight chance that I may be able to head to Philadelphia late Friday night and want to get a one-night reservation at the same hotel in Philly. My concern is that I plan to allow a guest to stay in the room prior to my arrival. I'm just wondering if there will be any "problems" with getting credit for the overlapping night. |

I'm in a similar situation by the end of next week.

I had this happen to me twice this summer at two different properties. I had booked a stay at the JW Marriott in Cancun. After booking, my MIL decided to come with us for part of the trip.
I booked the second room under my name as a separate reservation. I paid for both rooms. Initially, I only received nights and points credit for the shorter stay for my MIL. I contacted Bonvoy, and also contacted the property. The property provided all of the invoices which showed both rooms in my name, etc. After a couple of weeks of back and forth via email I was eventually given nights and points credits for the longer reservation without a response or explanation from Bonvoy customer support. The property said that I should be credited with points for both rooms. Bonvoy customer support eventually stopped responding via email. I tried to get a response or explanation for several weeks before I just gave up. The hassle just wasn't worth the few thousand points. Same thing happened a month later with the same scenario. Only this time it was with the Marriott in Cancun. I received nights and points credit for the longer stay, but not for the second room that overlapped on a second reservation. Contacted Bonvoy customer support again and never got a response. |

The trick to make sure one gets points (not EQNs) for all expenses incurred in both rooms is to transfer one room’s entire folio into the other room’s and settle both bills with a single invoice and cc transaction...

Did you personally pay for both invoices, for example with a credit card in your own name?
cheers! |

I've had this exact same thing happen with family who *insist* on paying for their room--no amount of explaining will deter them... 🤷🏻♂️
cheers! I usually ask the front desk manager if there's a way to manually add these to the folios as "paid" so that I can earn points on the spend. This works very well in Asia but not in North America unfortunately. |

I'm so sorry to know that the missing stay points caused inconvenient. If you send an email with your Marriot Bonvoy number and attaching the stay folio to [email protected], we'd be happy to assist you. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Per the T&C you do not receive night credit for any additional rooms.

I had a 10 night stay on points at a hotel, added one extra room for one night also on points, and ended up with 1 elite night.
pretty crummy in my opinion |
