Can I use Le Meridien Platinum Breakfast Benefit for a colleague?

I am staying at a (loungeless) Le Meridien soon for the first time as a Platinum. I understand that my welcome amenity can be breakfast for me and one other. Does that have to be someone else staying in the same room, or can I invite a colleague who is staying in another room?

I'm not trying to game the system; I just would like to understand the benefit I'm being offered.

Usually that’s fine as long as you booked your own room for 2 people. Hotels could technically refuse it but I haven’t had any problems. You’re booking 2 rooms rather than 1 (extra revenue for hotel) so it’s usually looked upon this way, i.e you can say you don’t want to share the room so booked 2.

The people at breakfast don’t know any better, as long as you booked for 2 people you can give the benefit to your friend. Tell them at the checkin you will be 2.
