Platinum with 6 nights this year, more than a little disappointing not to be targeted. I wonder if the lurker can comment on this as the "promotion" seems to be pissing off a lot of loyal customers.

Our apologies, but we don't have any comments to make in this regard. We passed along the thread to our loyalty team contacts on February 4th, so you can be assured they have been advised.

I think this is a pretty good promo especially wrt to elite night credits which is what I received. Makes me want to continue booking with Marriott/SPG.

Fizzer Feb 6, 2019 3:37 pm

Nada. That will be even less than the 50 points I got with another recent promotion.

I've not received any e-mails from Marriott on this, but I when I was booking travel arrangements today, I slipped over to the Promotions tab on my Marriott account and found mine there.

In our office:
Gold Status -- Double elite night credits on paid nights (2 month duration ending on April 30)
Platinum Status -- Earn up to 22,500 bonus points, 6000/7500/9000 for 1, 2, 3 paid stays (period ending May 31)

I'm torn on this one. I value the points esp. with it being 22,500 points (~$180USD) BUT, I don't mind being able to run up to Plat quickly in the beginning of the year. Has anyone figured out a pattern yet?

Nothing for me, Platinum, LT silver, Spain, 8 nights so far and 8 nigts already booked for 2019

by the way last year I was targetted double night credit with SPG

Maybe we're reading too much into how we got selected for different (or no) promos. I wouldn't be surprised if some data-type marketing or research person sees this as some opportunity to run a randomized control trial (or quasi-RCT), and we're all randomly placed into a group. (Say there are 9 promo types, maybe 10% of us get nothing, and the other 90% are split among the promo types). If each group has a representative mix of people from different locations, status levels, stays year-to-date, etc, they can presumably come up with some findings about how points promos vs. night promos, how generous the promo is, etc. affects consumer spending behavior across different segments.

(Of course I think those types of studies assume that people make independent decisions and don't know what group they're placed into, which is perhaps negated through information sharing such as us here on FT ;) )

Well from the last few pages of data points, it seems like maybe the people from SPG are the ones who aren't getting the emails/promos. Both my spg and marriott accounts had the same email address so I had to merge them last month. When I did I chose to use my SPG number instead of my MRs number. I got no promo offered. Seems odd that with all of these different offers that some people would receive absolutely nothing.

You're reading way too much into the responses from the last couple of pages.

Targeted is targeted. Marriott isn't going to share how we were targeted, or even why. I appreciate the Lurkers advising the Marriott marketing folks that some customers are unhappy with the targeted promotions (or lack thereof.)

I also appreciate the Lurker passing this on to marketing, and understand there are all sorts of analytics going on in the background. It still doesn't mean I'm happy to not make the cut. It seems to me that it should have been obvious that word would get out about the promotions on forums such as this and that there would be a backlash from those who didn't get anything.

Platinum with 7 nights so far. Nothing in my Promotions tab. Wish I would have at least gotten something :-/

I guess I don't understand Marriott's promo's. Why wait for the next one and leave a gap? Why have a promotion and not announce it right away? Do they not realize people make plans in advance? Wouldn't they want the promo to increase stays in February? Seems like a time of year that could use increased occupancy.

Marriott has done this often. They don't always have promotions one after another, and sometimes they skip one altogether. This targeted promo doesn't seem to be one of the systemwide ones that everyone participates in... probably just a study to see what various promos do to stay behavior of various folks.

I don't think they count on Flyertalk's reaction when they develop the studies...

The timing might have been better if they announced the Megabonus and then the targeted promo? They should have enough emotional intelligence to know that with the way things have gone over the last year, right at this point giving a few people lucrative promotions and others (many of whom have stuck with them despite issues) nothing might rub some the wrong way.

I don't think this is the case. I did not receive any version of this promo

I am LTPP through Marriott, although I did have an SPG account with an occasional stay which has been credited to MR since the merger.

My spouse is Marrriot Plat( temporarily because of the merger-she has Gold due to UA Rewards Plus). No stays last year except a few awards stays. She did not receive any version of this promo either.

I could possibly understand why I would not be targetted as a LTPP, but she would seem to be a perfect candidate to target for some revenue stays.

As a result of this lack of a promo, I will concentrate on Hilton for foreseeable future.

PP with 7 nights so far and zero promo. I called and asked about getting one. And I was told I wasn't eligible for ANY promos. Then I asked what the qualifications were. The agent told me there were 2 - whether you had either the Chase Marriott or SPG Amex (I have both) and how many points you have already (I have about 220,000). So I guess I'm too good a customer to offer a bonus to!
