The stay will be credited to the year in which it began and the nights will credit to the year in which each one of them falls.
The spend will count towards the year in which the member checks-out. (per Post #30)
Example:
A 3-night eligible stay, check in December 30, 2023 - check out January 2, 2024, will credit as follows:
The spend will count towards the year in which the member checks-out. (per Post #30)
Example:
A 3-night eligible stay, check in December 30, 2023 - check out January 2, 2024, will credit as follows:
- 2 nights of the stay (Dec 30 & 31) will credit to the 2023 membership year. 1 night (Jan 1) will credit to the 2024 membership year.
- The spend will credit to the 2024 membership year.

Check-in December - Check-out January
Now that Starwood's systems have migrated to Marriott's, I have to relearn everything once again.
With Starwood (SPG), the rules were as follows:
Question
For stays over the New Year, checking-in in December and checking-out in January, how are the stay credits and night credits accounted for ?
Answer
The stay credit goes to whichever year your stay began.
The night credits belong to whichever year each individual night begins.
Examples
Check in 30 Dec 2017, check out 1 Jan 2018 :
1 stay credit for 2017.
2 night credits for 2017.
Check in 31 Dec 2017, check out 2 Jan 2018 :
1 stay credit for 2017.
1 night credit for 2017 & 1 night credit for 2018.
Do the same rules apply with Marriott?
Thanks!

When I did a google, it found the Starwood thread, but it didn't find the Marriott thread.
Thanks for your help!

In the future, you can go to google and type in "SEARCHTERM site:flyertalk.com" (without the quotes) and it will search the site . Hope that helps!

The example in the wiki seems confusing to me:
12/27 - 1/2 is a 6 night stay with 7 nights being credited. Shouldn't it be a stay from 12/27 - 1/3? So only the nights starting in 2019 are credited to 2019.
I checked out on 1/1 and the stay has posted and I have 0 nights for 2019, and reading this thread that is what is expected.
Example: An eligible stay from December 27, 2018 - January 2, 2019 will credit as follows:
The stay will credit to 2018. 5 nights of the stay will credit to 2018. 2 nights will credit to 2019.
For 2019, and beyond, the nights will credit to the year in which they fall.

I have a stay 12/27/18-1/3/19. So when I check out on 1/3, will I get all nights in 2019, all in 2018, or will it split logically, 5 in 2018, 2 in 2019?
I'm hoping for the latter, it would make the most sense... but with the whole IT mess I'm afraid those nights which I need to renew status will just ... disappear. (FWIW, this is a SPG property I've booked)
Any experiences doing this in the old Marriott program?

That would be expected. But the example asked about was a stay with a check-out 1/3. I would expect the system to break up the nights, but not sure how it will handle the spend. I'd almost expect two folios with one as of 1/1 and another for the rest of the stay.

$$ Spend Credit
Can anyone confirm when the $ spend will post for a 12/31-1/1 stay? I couldn’t find this in the wiki.
I have an award stay for 12/31-1/1 where I’ll be spending ~$1K for a NYE dinner/party package thru the hotel. This should be what pushes me over the $20K threshold to keep ambassador status. But I’ll need this to post to 2019 and not 2020.
