The stay will be credited to the year in which it began and the nights will credit to the year in which each one of them falls.
The spend will count towards the year in which the member checks-out.
Example: A 3-night eligible stay, check in December 30, 2021 - check out January 2, 2022, will credit as follows:
2 nights of the stay (Dec 30 & 31) will credit to the 2021 membership year. 1 night (Jan 1) will credit to the 2022 membership year.
The spend will credit to the 2022 membership year.

Let's say you check in 2018/12/31 and check out 2019/1/1, does the night credit goes to 2018 or 2019?

This is how SPG handled it. Not sure about Marriott.

In a sense, it mattered less with Marriott due to rollover.

Mind you, I had a stay in 2017 and another in 2018, for those five days... but it's not like stays matter any more.

I'm pretty sure that under the new program, the nights will count for the year in which you do not need them.

How do stays spanning 2 calendar years get credited?
I have a stay 12/27/18-1/3/19. So when I check out on 1/3, will I get all nights in 2019, all in 2018, or will it split logically, 5 in 2018, 2 in 2019?
I'm hoping for the latter, it would make the most sense... but with the whole IT mess I'm afraid those nights which I need to renew status will just ... disappear. (FWIW, this is a SPG property I've booked)
Any experiences doing this in the old Marriott program?

'm in Tokyo 12/31-1/2, and I'm also curious to which year the nights will be credited.
I've never crossed years before either.
Hopefully, someone else on FT has some experience with this.

Considering this is the first year under new rules, many of which Marriott itself does not seem to know yet, any answer will only be speculation.
I too have a three-night stay that spans NYE so will also be curious to see how it plays. I do expect it will credit in the least beneficial way possible though.

In the past Marriott has always given the night's credit for the year in which the night was stayed, not billed.
Example; Check in on Dec 29, 2017, Check out on Jan 3, 2018.
To be honest, despite a rule against it the hotel has often given a second round of Welcome Points. At the VA Beach SHS when doing this I pointed out I understood there was no second round of welcome points and the manager, who was at the desk at the time, said, "What the heck..." and awarded them anyway.

- The following nights are stayed in and credited for 2017: Dec 29, 30 and 31.
- The following nights are stayed in and credited for 2018: Jan 1 and 2.

Ahh, one of the SPG traditions I will miss. The annual "New Year's Eve" questions, with the predictable reply linking to Starwood Lurker's response to the question from last year, the year before, the year before that, etc....

Will New Year's Eve elite night count for 2018 or 2019?
Hello,
cutting it close this time with my 50 elite nights needed to renew my Platinum Elite status I was wondering if my already booked night from 12/31 to 01/01 will actually be added to my 2018 nights? It may be a stupid question, but I didn't find any answer on the Marriott pages.
