What a shame. I guess it wasn't really a luxury hotel but still unfortunate. I suppose it doesn't make a difference anymore as everything will soon be subject to Marrifacation so it doesn't really matter what brand anything is anymore.

The hotel left the portfolio yesterday; as per a post from InsideFlyer, it is no longer part of the Luxury Collection.
Shame it's switching from Luxury to Autograph, but at least it's part of the greater Marriott umbrella since we'll all officially be one big family come August. Reminds me of how the Hotel Atlantic Hamburg will switch over to Autograph when its contract with Kempinski ends in Q1 2021 when it's more fitting that it joins LC, but alas...

Officially open as Autograph Collection property. Cat 4.
"The Hotel Elephant Weimar in the heart of the classic city is one of Germany's most historic and renowned hotels. Looking back on a long tradition the hotel is operated by arcona Hotels & Resorts and reopened in October 2018 as Autograph Collection hotel after extensive renovation. Under this brand, Marriott unites exceptional, hand-picked hotels with a unique perspective in design, craftsmanship and hospitality under the premise of "exactly like nothing else". The unique charm of the future boutique hotel is characterized by timelessly elegant design as well as classic Art Deco and Bauhaus elements, which are reflected in 99 comfortable rooms and suites, meeting rooms and public areas. Cultural topics and culinary art are in the focus of attention, as well as an in-house cultural expert opening the treasures of Weimar to guests in the house and on private city tours. One of them is the Hotel Elephant itself: for over three centuries it has been the hub of the city's social life."

What are the benefits for MR Plat Premier at Autograph Collection? SPG Plat were treated very well at Hotel Elephant as Luxury Collection. I hope someone will post a review soon to see what's different.

Wanted to provide a quick review of this place. We had a two night stay here and were very pleased.
We'd been here a couple times back when the hotel was Luxury Collection, and I must say the remodel was very tastefully done -- updating some of the aging furniture and infrastructure, but without destroying the hotel's classic beauty.
A couple of days before the stay, the app showed an upgrade to a junior suite (even though higher suites were showing available). When we arrived, we were given a small junior suite on the 3rd floor, but with a very bright and airy feel, and beautiful view of the Marktplatz and mountains in the distance. Despite its relatively small size, we'd pick this room over the full suites we've had here in the past (overlooking back alleys or the courtyard). The rooms now have air condition, a welcome addition. We had some welcome fruits, water, and delicious chocolates in the room.
We were offered full breakfast (in addition to 1000 points), and it's a stunning breakfast by European standards. There's a huge selection of high quality meats, cheeses, fish, pastries, yogurts, fruit, eggs made to order, juices, and free-flowing sparkling wine. All served in a beautifully stylish historic setting.
Weimar is well worth a visit, and the hotel is a great base for exploring the region. Rates have gone up since the Luxury Collection days, but we were able to find a EUR83 BRG, and felt that this was excellent value.

I'm happy to read such a positive report, jpdx. We loved our stay several years back, both because of the hotel and because we found Weimar such a fascinating place to visit. It is a small charming town where many intellectuals lived. I'm a fan of Tom Lehrer and his witty lyrics. I thought of this one while in Weimar:
Last December 13th, there appeared in the newspapers the juiciest,
Last December 13th, there appeared in the newspapers the juiciest,
spiciest, raciest obituary it has ever been my pleasure to read.
It was that of a lady named Alma Mahler Gropius Werfel, who had,
in her lifetime, managed to acquire as lovers practically all of
the top creative men in central Europe. And, among these lovers,
who were listed in the obituary, by the way, which is what made
it so interesting, there were three whom she went so far as to
marry: One of the leading composers of the day, Gustav Mahler,
composer of "Das Lied von der Erde" and other light classics,
one of the leading architects, Walter Gropius, of the "Bauhaus
School of Design", and one of the leading writers, Franz Werfel,
author of…
We found most of those people had lived in Weimar. For example, the Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar.
For those traveling thru Germany, it's well worth including this town and the Elephant on your trip.
