W Panama [Master Thread]
After several delays, W Panama in Panama City, Panama, is now listed with a February 15, 2018 opening date and accepting reservations:
W Panama
The earliest available reservation is March 1 at $180/night. It’s unclear if the hotel is sold out from Feb. 15 to March 1 or if there’s been a further delay until March 1. (The latter is my guess.) Either way, it appears the opening is imminent, as reservations are being accepted for dates less than a month into the future.
I’ll be in Panama again on March 1 and plan to check it out.

Officially open. Marriott press release:
Panamania: W Debuts in Central America with Opening of W Panama | Marriott News Center
Excerpt:
"Located in one of the most cosmopolitan capitals in the region, Panama City, the new hotel towers above the heart of the business district within the ultra-modern, 50-floor Evolution Tower on Calle 50....The hotel is near Uruguay Street, known as the “Zona Rosa” of Panama, home to a bustling scene of trendy restaurants and nightclubs....Guests enter W Panama on the 15th floor of the striking new skyscraper and are immediately greeted by playfully modern design. W Panama transforms the industrial look of shipping containers, similar in look to those often found along the Panama Canal, with original graffiti painted by Diablos Rojos-inspired artist, Oscar Melgar. Throughout the hotel, five containers become destinations themselves, setting the scene for connecting and mingling. The shipping containers can be found in the hotel’s Living Room (the brand’s take on the traditional hotel lobby), the expansive, 6,835-square-foot WET Deck (pool deck) and Cargo, the destination bar housed within its own shipping container which serves up handcrafted cocktails year-round....With 203 guest rooms including 28 gorgeous suites, many featuring sweeping views of the nearby bay and Canal..."

Cheers.

I can see this place out my window at the Hyatt Place, and I've walked by a few times. Great to see it open after all of the delays (~15 months?) and the building itself is beautiful. Not many lights on at night and almost no one entering or exiting, so occupancy seems very low right now, as one would probably expect.

I usually stayed at the hyatt place for the $65 rate. The price with breakfast included is unbeatable. But since I am no longer looking to requalify to Globalist I am gonna stay at the W to compare it to the Le meridiem and Sheraton. I am going very soon! Cant wait!

I’m surprised this crowd hasn’t generated any reviews yet, but I finally checked out the public areas of the W a few days ago and they did a beautiful job. Really impressed with what I saw. I haven’t seen more than 10 lights on at night and there were only a few people in the bar and pool area when I was there, so occupancy must be very low in their first month. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have more staff than guests right now. There are always 4-5 staffers standing outside to valet park, etc.

Trying random dates, I couldn't find the Extreme Wow suite available until the middle of June, at $1,399/night. Maybe it isn't done yet?

Having a nice stay so far for the weekend. Got upgraded to a Marvelous Suite. Staff are great. Platinum breakfast is the full buffet in the restaurant with a nice view of the city. Didnt use the pool as it has been raining quite a lot. Good restaurant choices in the area in all budget ranges.
