I guess there will be some reduction in the inclusion when people "pay" less for a service.
Which is very fair.
Pay as in paid with less point ... and Im guessing they got less than usual reimbursement from Marriott

Question, since we have till March next year, where would you chose for NYE celebrations for a family? The maldives properties are already sold out on points.
Was thinking possibly Paris, but like NYC and London when in cities we rarely spend time in the room so feels wasted to use the points for a room there but if you think the Cat 8's in Paris are worth it then perhaps.
Any other suggestions?

I thought about that and the bargain hunter in me, was a little dismissive as the paid rates arent that high usually (I not checked for next year so I will) so the value per point wont be that high but thank you as its an excellent shout!

One issue using points for NYE is upgrades tend to be exceptionally scarce, so risk of a disappointing room assignment on an award is rather high.
The Bangkok threads provide ample evidence of how that played this year. No upgrades, fair bit of dissatisfaction. (In fact, some of us had difficulties with room assignments even on very expensive paid rates.)

This sweet benefit ends on March 5 when Marriott begins Level 8 pricing. Book and fund your stay by then. It appears you cannot book and hope to subsequently earn the points to cover the stay.

For those of us that have booked Points Advance reservations before the category change, make note of what this one Bonvoyeur found out when trying to redeem certificates for a property that had gone up in category:
Source: https://travelupdate.boardingarea.co...-reservations/
So after that I emailed [email protected] and on Monday I got the following reply from the Social Media Specialist.
As of now, Points Advance bookings made before the category changes went into effect are being honored at the original rate booked. Our best suggestion is to call back and if you are given any push-back, ask them to read KM article 6115. If they still insist they can do nothing, ask to speak to a supervisor.

Made some 60k reservations at the Gritti Palace for July but now want to change to August. Will they honour the existing rate given it wasp rebooked prior to devaluation or will a change trigger additional points being required - sorry couldn't see the answer in this thread.
Many thanks

By the rules, any change to arrival or departure date will revert to new rate. I was not able to shorten my two night booking to one night without rate changing. I ended up cancelling and stayed elsewhere. Good luck.

The way Marriott has been honoring point advance reservations booked prior to March 5, 2019 is by adding points to offset the higher award rate. Therefore, although if you change the reservation, you'll be re-booking at the new award rate, you technically have more points in your account as Marriott added them to adjust. My question is: Has anyone who had Marriott add points to honor the old rate still changed the reservation afterwards? I'm trying to do reduce a 3 night award to a 2 night award and it's showing on the last step that I'll be credited back 85K in point but am unsure if Marriott will suddenly take away all the points it added to offset the higher award rate.
Let me know
Thanks!

Marriott rebated the points to me that I had used, not the points that the booking showed.

So when had them re-do your points advance reservation to the legacy rate, they charged you the full new award rate and deposited back in your account the difference? What's stopping you from just cancelling the reservation and getting those points back as well?
