Points Reservation -- cancellations and "forfeit"
I am a legacy SPG member, so apologies is this is more clear to legacy Marriott members.
I am considering an award reservation at a resort. Even though the dates are very far out, the website says that the date for cancellation has passed (i.e., not 24/48/72 hour cancellation policy).
What are people's experiences with this? Is it enforced if I cancel say 6 or 8 months before? Also, what specifically is "forfeit" -- the points used for the reservation or some dollar amount (e.g., equal to the room rate)?
I am Platinum in the combined program if that adds anything to the mix.
Many thanks.
Edited to add: Apologies for misspelling forfeit in the title, which of course can't be changed!

I’m having a similar problem with “cancellation “ policy.
Yesterday, I was trying to book a stay with points for March 2019 and the terms keep showing up as “non-refundable.”
I did this several times with different types of points reservations. But it all keeps coming back non-refundable.
Older reservations that I made months ago are also now showing they are non-refundable.
I sent a note to Marriott customer service to ask if this is just a “glitch.” I haven’t heard back from them yet.
