Hmm I'll be in Shanghai in May just short of the opening I guess :(
|
Looks like it is delayed again. Reservations start August 15th.
|
Looks the hotel is open now.
Anyone know if this hotel, and other EDITION branded hotels offer free breakfast to Plats? It's under the Ritz Carlton umbrella, so I am not sure. |
Officially open. Marriott press release:
Chinese Heritage Meets The New Generation Of Luxury With The Opening Of The Shanghai EDITION | Marriott News Center Excerpt: "The Shanghai EDITION will be housed in one of the city’s finest buildings; the former headquarters of Shanghai Power Company on Nanjing Road, along the tree-lined Huang Pu River port on the Bund. This Art Deco monument houses the public area of the hotel, comprising a magnificent lobby, Michelin starred Chef Jason Atherton’s new restaurant, Shanghai Tavern, and a world class spa as well as multiple bars, night club, rooftop and meeting and event areas. As well as being updated and renovated, the heritage-protected historical building now flows into the state-of-the-art skyscraper development, designed to coexist and harmonize with the historical structure, while bringing it into the present day. This multi-dimensional space creates a synergy, designed for movement and flow. In the new tower, 145 rooms and suites, many with unrivalled views of the Bund, will be accompanied by an array of wining and dining spaces, including HIYA, a new Japanese restaurant by Jason Atherton on the 27th floor and Shanghai’s stylish incarnation of Punch Room, the sophisticated cocktail lounge first made famous at The London EDITION and ROOF, a garden rooftop bar with 360 degree views of Shanghai." More details re: property, restaurants, pool, spa in press release. Re: free breakfast for Plats. EDITION is one of the excluded brands. Cheers. |
I wonder if any Flyertalker stayed at the Shanghai Edition since its opening. I’m currently looking at interesting choices for a one night stay at the Bund in November, and came across the reviews of that property in TripAdvisor. It’s already on 2nd place of all properties in Shanghai. However, if you take a closer look at all the raving reviews it’s mostly restaurant only, guided tour or similar. Looking at the reviews of the people who really stayed there it seems just below average. This really seems like a prime example for well fabricated positive TripAdvisor reviews.

I walked past it several times last week. The outside looks extremely bland, and unappealing, at least on the Nanjing Road side. However the location cannot be beat. Would be interested to hear your experiences if you choose to stay there.

Very nice views of the Bund. What are the benefits for Plat here?
|
Looks like the wall-mounted TV is neither directly facing the bed nor the sofa. That's an awkward angle to watch TV from either side. Does the TV swing out either way?

I received an upgraded room (plus possibly priority for booking tables at the very busy bar and restaurants in the hotel) but that was pretty much it - this is effectively an RC property so you should view it that way in terms of status benefits. Not yet part of Virtuoso or Amex FHR but I was told the hotel has applied for both and expects to join in 2019. I was able to get RC Stars benefits through my travel agent.

Currently staying at this property now. Booked the Celebration Package (room + breakfast) for the base room, and was upgraded to the Bund View Suite. I am Premier Platinum Elite.
