Opening April 2018. Tier 3.
https://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/tr...nghai-edition/ "The Shanghai EDITION, located at the northeast corner of Nanjing Road East and Henan Road in Puxi, west of the Huangpu River and just a five minute walk from The Bund, is a unique combination of two separate towers featuring 145 guest rooms. The hotel’s design includes 10 levels of public space including 5 meeting studios and 2 forums totaling over 265 square meters. Food and beverage outlets include a signature Japanese restaurant on the 27th floor, a Cantonese dining venue featuring 5 private dining rooms, an all-day dining venue, 3 lounge bars, an indoor nightlife venue and 2 rooftop bars." |
Now opening June '18.
|
Hmm I'll be in Shanghai in May just short of the opening I guess :(
|
Looks like it is delayed again. Reservations start August 15th.
|
Looks the hotel is open now.
Anyone know if this hotel, and other EDITION branded hotels offer free breakfast to Plats? It's under the Ritz Carlton umbrella, so I am not sure. |
Officially open. Marriott press release:
Chinese Heritage Meets The New Generation Of Luxury With The Opening Of The Shanghai EDITION | Marriott News Center Excerpt: "The Shanghai EDITION will be housed in one of the city’s finest buildings; the former headquarters of Shanghai Power Company on Nanjing Road, along the tree-lined Huang Pu River port on the Bund. This Art Deco monument houses the public area of the hotel, comprising a magnificent lobby, Michelin starred Chef Jason Atherton’s new restaurant, Shanghai Tavern, and a world class spa as well as multiple bars, night club, rooftop and meeting and event areas. As well as being updated and renovated, the heritage-protected historical building now flows into the state-of-the-art skyscraper development, designed to coexist and harmonize with the historical structure, while bringing it into the present day. This multi-dimensional space creates a synergy, designed for movement and flow. In the new tower, 145 rooms and suites, many with unrivalled views of the Bund, will be accompanied by an array of wining and dining spaces, including HIYA, a new Japanese restaurant by Jason Atherton on the 27th floor and Shanghai’s stylish incarnation of Punch Room, the sophisticated cocktail lounge first made famous at The London EDITION and ROOF, a garden rooftop bar with 360 degree views of Shanghai." More details re: property, restaurants, pool, spa in press release. Re: free breakfast for Plats. EDITION is one of the excluded brands. Cheers. |
I wonder if any Flyertalker stayed at the Shanghai Edition since its opening. I’m currently looking at interesting choices for a one night stay at the Bund in November, and came across the reviews of that property in TripAdvisor. It’s already on 2nd place of all properties in Shanghai. However, if you take a closer look at all the raving reviews it’s mostly restaurant only, guided tour or similar. Looking at the reviews of the people who really stayed there it seems just below average. This really seems like a prime example for well fabricated positive TripAdvisor reviews.
|
I walked past it several times last week. The outside looks extremely bland, and unappealing, at least on the Nanjing Road side. However the location cannot be beat. Would be interested to hear your experiences if you choose to stay there.

Very nice views of the Bund. What are the benefits for Plat here?
|
Looks like the wall-mounted TV is neither directly facing the bed nor the sofa. That's an awkward angle to watch TV from either side. Does the TV swing out either way?

I received an upgraded room (plus possibly priority for booking tables at the very busy bar and restaurants in the hotel) but that was pretty much it - this is effectively an RC property so you should view it that way in terms of status benefits. Not yet part of Virtuoso or Amex FHR but I was told the hotel has applied for both and expects to join in 2019. I was able to get RC Stars benefits through my travel agent.

Currently staying at this property now. Booked the Celebration Package (room + breakfast) for the base room, and was upgraded to the Bund View Suite. I am Premier Platinum Elite.
Pictures follow. |

Thank you the review. this hotel reminds me a lot of Park Hyatt Bangkok, very similar in design and furnishing. |
What's the price on the breakfast?

Upon leaving the restaurant, I was asked to sign the chit, which was RMB 218++. This never got charged to my room, obviously. |
Thanks for the reviews + pics. Looks nice.
Cheers. |
For a four night couple's vacation in Shanghai, I'm debating between the W and Edition hotels. Any opinions?
W is an year older and I understand in slightly more isolated north Bund area. While Edition looks to be closer to the action of central Bund and has more in house restaurants and bars. W 46sqm hotel rooms do appear to be more spacious than the Edition 33-36sqm rooms though? Prices between two are similar and I'm MR Titanium if that makes a difference. Thanks! |

As Edition is a subset of Ritz the Ritz Carlton STARS travel agent program is offering 300CNY credit towards a 60 min spa treatment until 30 June see the Luxury Hotel's Forum for info on Ritz STARS if you are not familiar |

My rate included breakfast at Shanghai Tavern. The breakfast was a cold buffet selection (fruits, cereals, cold cuts, pastries, etc.) and ordering hot dishes and juices/coffee/tea off an a la carte menu. I don't know how many hot dishes you could order, though. Actually, the a la carte prices were quite reasonable for a five-star hotel.

Too many pointless half doors on the shower and toilet. What's the point of having those?
|
For those who stays at this property, could you talk about how you went from the airport? I am thinking about taking a subway but the hotel website says it is about 30 miles from the airport and I wonder how long it takes. Not many reviews of this property online so any advice would be appreciated.

How does this hotel compare to the JW Marriott at Tomorrow Square?

I mind neither massive business hotels nor high-end boutique properties. :D
Regarding seightseeing, I’ve been to that temple in the middle of the city and Nanjing Road as well as Bar Rouge... Otherwise I haven’t been to the Bund, so maybe it would be nice to stay close to the Bund? But I’ll only be there for a day and I’ll also be meeting a friend and working from my hotel room, so I don’t know how much location really matters. I like suite upgrades (who doesn’t) and good elite treatment. Breakfast, lounge etc. isn’t very important for me on such a short stay. I have a morning flight the following day anyway. Where would you stay? I’m also open to staying somewhere else entirely... |

I’m not staying here this trip, but the exterior of the EDITION sure is interesting in a bland way :-)

Is that really the Edition? The edition in on Nanjing road and from memory should be squeezed next to a lot of buildings. I could be wrong but that doesn't look like the Edition to me. Is that really Nanjing road?

Yep, Nanjing Road is on the north side of the tower - this is looking North towards the south side of the tower from the corner of Jiangxi and Hankou near Custom House, I believe. I walked down the pedestrian mall on Nanjing and the entrance to the EDITION is right there across the mall from the Daimaru store.

Most JW's are old

They are two very different properties. The JW is a massive business hotel - getting a bit aged now but has held up pretty well. EDITION is a high end boutique property, very trendy.
Hopefully this new Edition does well in 2024. |

Yes, the interior is gorgeous. My friend designed it - stunning on inside. Outside, I never noticed until this post, seems lacking
