Thanks Sharon for the interesting update. Marriott Kauai is Cat 8, perhaps some chance this will be same.

There's no beach.

Not a fan of Poipu, but the weather is much better at this end of the island.

I just took a guess on the category given it's Hawaii. Since the property isn't opening until December/renovation complete, there's no category listed yet on the website. The only reason I started the thread is we had some Kauai questions recently & I wanted to give a heads up that there will be another option this year on the island.

Cheers.

Website says: Newest product on Kauai - opened in 2010 and expanded in 2013 & 2016. Has this always been a Marriott & now u/g to the A.C.?

This property has never been under a Marriott brand. It currently has no brand affiliation, operating simply as the Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu Beach, until the renovation to Autograph Collection standards is complete.

The property opened in 2010 as the Wyndham Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach Wyndham Grand Resort. The property dropped its Wyndham affiliation March 2016.

As of tonight, Marriott.com shows this property as a hotel, not as a resort. If it remains a hotel, Gold and Platinum members will be entitled to the lounge/breakfast benefit.

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...ph-collection/

I assume this is a mistake. I expect it to change to a resort on Marriott.com before it opens.

I have stayed at the property before and it is a nice property. Right now it only shows available after Feb 28th to book via Marriott.

So thinking of taking the family here (on points) in August. Any chance they upgrade a plat to a 1 bedroom over the studios? Any experiences would be great. Also, how bad is it not being on the beach?

Finished a 7 night stay at the property a few weeks ago (on points) and was upgraded to a two bedroom suite. Very nice. All pools were open, but, they were still "dialing in" finishing touches (like handrails, etc).

The gym is large, but, the machines were regularly out of order.

Nice staff and hot coffee in the mornings in the reception.

Overall, a very nice experience.

Ok so at least a chance of an upgrade.

Did you use the free bus for transport? Curious how you called it to get back to the hotel...

Did you receive free breakfast as an elite benefit at this property?

It's a resort so probably no breakfast bennies. I'll get the mod to change the thread title to the property's official name, which is "Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, Autograph Collection".

Cheers.
