Sorry to hear about the breakfast situation - I stayed last summer twice (eight nights total) on a STARS rate and everything at breakfast was included. We spent a huge amount each morning ordering all the dishes we wanted and it was all comped.
On our first stay, we did end up with one of the box rooms for the first night as everything else had been sold, but they said come and ask us if you can have something better during the stay. I noticed a Loft King became available for the final three nights when I woke up the next day, and they kindly gave that to me. The next stay, they upgraded me in advance to a Loft King for the entire four nights stay. I was Titanium and both stays were booked via my luxury travel advisor, who I often get good to amazing upgrades with at Bonvoy properties - unsure if it’s the STARS rate or the agent, or both. I also ask nicely in the app. |

I was upgraded to a corner Loft suite for my 2nd stay at the hotel, but the issue is that they only have 15 suites at this 100 rooms & suites property.

Staying here now - booked a Santa Caterina room via Amex FHR. A few points
- My room is a bit small, but adequate and well designed (which I find typical of Editions). I booked the Santa Caterina room directly - at check in, they said I had a "really good room" - but it isn't a loft or suite (I think it is just the room I booked), the view from the room is excellent however. If you want a larger room, you probably just have to pay for it directly in order to ensure it. I am traveling with a +1, and she thinks the room size is fine. - The Amex breakfast benefit is excellent - order two main courses, two starters off the menu along with coffee drinks. It is also offered from 7 to 11 AM, which is a good range of time (eating at 10:30 AM sets you off well for the early afternoon). Unless you really don't value breakfast, it is hard to see why you wouldn't book an Amex or STARS rate here. - Service at the lobby restaurant and rooftop has been excellent. The lobby par is currently running a pop up restaurant from an apparently well known local chef and is serving pretty good tapas. The restaurant has been lively and full most times of the day. - As usual with Edition, the star of the hotel is the public space, specifically the rooftop. Very good drinks, good (but small) tapas portions, great view, good people watching and chatting. We have spent a lot of our time here when not out exploring the city. - Location is excellent and right in the gothic quarter. With so many good options in this area, many of them new (Cotton House, Le Meridien, the new Kimpton, Grand Hotel Central, etc) hotels like W and Hotel Arts (and even further out properties like some of the Hyatts and Hiltons) don't seem as appealing to me IMO. Recommend. Cotton House next |
Agreed. This is one of my favourite Marriott Bonvoy hotels. I didn’t get to try the Punch Room last summer as it was still closed. Glad to hear it’s worth a visit. Thanks for the review.

+1 One of my favourite Editions. The Punch Room is great, and some of the bartenders have worked in the London Edition. They will make up concoctions and give you a try! Stayed a week here earlier this year and was treated very well. Upgraded to Loft corner as well. Heading back in February.

Thank you ElevatorEnthusiast for all the great photos!! Looks like a fantastic hotel - I wanted to try it awhile back, but it was closed for COVID. I will definitely go next time I am in Barcelona.

Great review and pics, ElevatorEnthusiast . Brought back good memories for me and MrsDTWLarry, from our trip there in 2019. We also enjoyed the on-property amenities, location, etc.

Quick update - my stay posted without points for my base rate (postpaid FHR). The Ambassador team seems to have resolved this within 24 hours.

As a tongue-in-cheek aside, I like to think that I played a part in securing hassle free 4pm checkout for elites, when I first stayed last year. The front desk seemed to think that it was subject to availability, but I advised them it wasn’t and they graciously confessed they had been misinformed, after reviewing the T&Cs. They said they would inform their colleagues and the 4pm checkout was granted without quibble the next time I stayed. Maybe this is my legacy 😜

Since Marriott is allowing SNA's here next year, I'm trying to pick between this and the Hotel Arts. Seems like a very close call. Both look great.

I have only stayed at Hotel Arts once during COVID (I have no intention of ever returning) which may or may not be a fair representation, but it's not close at all for me - Hotel Arts is an oversized, dated hotel with mediocre service in a sub-optimal location vs. The EDITION which is a contender for best hotel in Barcelona. The EDITION is typically more expensive and it's for good reason.
1) Arts pool area will be meaningfully larger (if you care) 2) An SNA at Arts may get you into a suite with a Mediterranean Sea view |
