Thanks so much, Choptliva! I had seen that long thread in past, and that A1K code, but 3 posts following it w/ an FT'er & William appeared to say that the promo for A1K had ended.

Regardless, I called the SPG Gold number, instead of the 866-number on that SPG-AAA link -- that number simply sends you to AAA reservations, who know nothing about this. The very helpful Candice at Gold had no problem at all adding AAA as the external mktng partner and the A1K promo is the code she used to do it.

So, that's the trick... call SPG and use that terminology and the doors open! ^

Thanks to all...I just called SPG and added A1K as a promo to my account, so I'll get the extra 1000 points for my stay in the Bahamas.

Thank you

If you have not signed up for the AAA bonus promo, here's the link. No reason to miss out on bonus points, eh? http://www.starwood.com/promotions/...ml?category=AAA
Thanks to this thread, I called yesterday and will now be getting my AAA extra points on top of my gold status. Thank you all; I never would have spotted this one on my own.

Starwood Corporate Pref

Hi everyone;

I have just recieved my Corporate Preferred Guest package. It says I can get Automatic upgrades to a Preferred Room at check-in. Is this the same as a club room with comp breakfest?

Thanks.

rcs85551 Oct 17, 2004 3:56 pm

Officially, there is no free breakfast at SPG - even for Platinums.
At properties with a club lounge that do serve breakfast (not all), the breakfast is a benefit of being upgraded. Whether you get upgraded to the club floor or not depends on the property; they don't have to (but most do try).

UpgradeMe Oct 17, 2004 3:56 pm

No. .

What all is in that packet? I haven't seen much at all from this since I signed up for it.

gleff Oct 17, 2004 5:52 pm

A preferred room may mean a better view, a higher floor, or generally just not the worst room at the hotel. And even that is 'subject to availability'. Club rooms are often considered to be in a higher category from 'preferred' and thus Gold and 'Corporate Preferred' members are not entitled to them. However this varies by property.

SQUAD55 Oct 17, 2004 5:56 pm

Normal Room over Club Room

Thanks for the replies

I have the following rates for the Sheraton LAX
Normal Room 85.00
Club Room 110.00

Do you guys think the club room is worth the extra money?

dingo Oct 18, 2004 6:34 am

If there is alcohol and that interests you, seems like you can have about three drinks to make up the difference, or evening snacks, or morning breakfast.

How is the Corporate Preferred compared to other level?

I have been at Preferred + level. I just received the Corporate Preferred package. Is this an upgrade from my original level?

There doesn't seem to be any differences except for the "Preferred Room Upgrade."

Is what correct and does what apply to Preferred Plus membership?

I'd be glad to help, but I have to know what you're asking. ;)

MBNA Credit Card- Lurker?

Are holders of the new MBNA SPG card for Canadians eligible to be Preferred Plus?

Hmmm. Good question. I'll ask and we'll see what the marketing gurus have to say, but something tells me "no" as I haven't seen it mentioned among the card benefits.

Sorry William, I was refering to the 5 and 10 stay threshold with the 2000 point bonus for preferred plus members.

thanks

No, that used to be for Corporate Preferred members only. Besides this, it changed for them earlier this year (January 1st). Now Corporate members can earn two SPG50 certs based on the number of stays they have, provided they registered using the url we sent them.

business preferred guest ?

Recently I was checking my account and noticed I was upgraded to Preferred Business Guest (SPG AMEX CARD member) and while checking my profile I noticed I also had a Corporate/SET Number assigned ??

I don't own my own business, I thought as a amex member I'll be Preferred + member, but also why was I assigned a Corporate/Set number as well (no clue what its used for since I dont work for any major corporations)?

I don't want to run into any problems where I'm listed as a business guest (show work id?) when I have no clue lol.

Thoughts, comments?

Preferred Business Guest

I just logged on to my spouse's SPG account and she is listed as a "Preferred Business Guest." She has the SPG AMEX and she signed up for the AAA SPG status. Previously, I believe that she was called "Preferred Plus," at least that was what the hotels called her status when we stayed using her points in the past.

I'm just curious whether this is another name for Preferred Plus and whether this comes from the Amex or AAA or both? Or, did I just never notice this new name?

Thanks for any info.

My account says the same thing, its just another wording for "PREFERRED PLUS" member.

I recently signed up for SPG and the AMEX. My account also became "Preferred Business Guest" and I had a SET/Corporate Rate of 3456 in my profile. Anyone know anything about the SET/Corporate Rate?

I'm under the impression that "Preferred Business Guest" is the same as SPG Gold without the bonus points? Also, do I receive this "status" as long as I keep my AMEX, or does it expire?

Thanks!

dingo Jan 30, 2005 7:49 am

What is the preferred business designation and what does it get you?

doesun Jan 30, 2005 7:52 am

sounds like a question for the lurker. William, any news on this one?

railroadtycoon Jan 30, 2005 10:23 am

As explained in the archives.

Preferred Business Guest sometimes appears in an account, but its just another wording for "Preferred Plus" member. Your new card credentials will say "Preferred Plus".

The benefits are the same as gold except you do not get the bonus points. Its still 2pts per dollar. Its valid as long as you hold the AMEX (or AAA membership).

Search the archives for "PREFERRED PLUS"

breakfast

i think on business travel the price for breakfast is not so important. but if you do it out of your own pocket, i think you will be shocked to see that some Spg properties bill 25USD for a single breakfast.
i stayed at the sheraton moscow the last week, as i am platinum with starwood, i got a upgrade to a so called junior suite (which only had the size of a normal room) but received breakfast in the lounge. well in only managed two times to eat breakfast, as i was not in hotel or sleeping too long, but the breakfast was asesome.

anyway, a friend of mine, who has no status, last time paid 25 USD for a breakfast there.
if it is that expensive, i think i can understand people, who are going for hilton.

i suggest the following changes in the spg programm:

platinum preferred should earn 100% starpoints , i think the best customers have to get more points than gold members.

a comp. breakfast should be addet as benefit (even if you get the axx to the lounge )

this would be my ideas.

anyway, now i am with starwood and i earned up to 12000 starpoints with 3 stays. so i am quite happy with that program.

@ william. giving the highest status to centurioncard holders is a good thing.
my additional cardholder who is working for a big company moved his business travel to spg too.
so keep this benefit for ever please and i will stay with your company .

Corporate Preferred Guest status

Who here has corporate preferred guest status?

On my company's website, I found the following text.

... employees who are new or existing members of Starwood Preferred Guest are eligible for Corporate Preferred Guest® status. Privileges at this unpublished level include:

4:00 pm late checkout, when available
Automatic upgrades to a Preferred Room at check-in, when available
Two Starpoints for every eligible U.S. dollar spent
Instant Awards that offer spontaneous indulgences, such as breakfast in bed, massages and more
What are other FTers success rates in getting all the privileges listed above?

Thanks!

747sardine Apr 3, 2005 9:28 am

I have had the late checkout and also been offered free health club use when it would have otherwise cost.

UpgradeMe Apr 3, 2005 9:46 am

Two Starpoints for every eligible U.S. dollar spent
Instant Awards that offer spontaneous indulgences, such as breakfast in bed, massages and more
These hardly qualify as "privileges," since they apply to all SPG members.

Are you sure about this? What is the two points for every dollar spent and the instant awards privileges?

I can't get to the SPG site at the moment to find the exact text, but any preferred guest can use their starpoints on the spot for things during your stay, like room service (I think) or spa treatments or something of the like. Preferred Guest, Preferred Plus and Corporate Preferred Guests all earn 2 starpoints per dollar spent at the hotel. Gold Preferred and Plat Preferred earn 3 starpoints per dollar spent.

mountain flyer Apr 3, 2005 6:32 pm

I'm corporate preferred and you really don't get anything except a slightly different card. Maybe you get a room upgrade...but it is hard to tell the difference from the standard room. I will see about the health club tomorrow...regular members are charged $8 so that would be a plus.

As I would otherwise be a Preferred member, I guess anything above and beyond is a plus.

Confused about status - gold v. preferred plus

Thanks to all the advice on this forum, I applied for the Amex Starwood card after cancelling my old Amex skymiles card. My understanding is that my status is preferred plus, giving me late checkout, and automatic upgrade, if available.
My husband also has a Starwood account, which I discovered yesterday is Gold (apparently because he was signed up through a corporate amenity program). When I checked to see what gold status means, the description sounds identical to my preferred plus, i.e., late checkout, automatic upgrade.
My question: is there any difference? Would I have a better chance of upgrades if I moved my award points to his account, and made award stay reservations there? Obviously, I need to use my own account to get points on the Amex for a paid stay. Bottom line, what is the difference, if any, between preferred plus, and gold?

Gold gets you 50% bonus in points. I think that's about it. :) And welcome to FT!

Sam P. Goodman Apr 7, 2005 2:37 pm

I was preferred plus, then gold, and am now preferred plus again. On paper, the benefits are the same (except for the 50% point bonus for Gold). In my experience, I was much more likely to get upgraded to a preferred room as a Gold than as preferred plus. It may have been differences between the hotels I was staying at (the extent of participation does seem to vary quite a bit by hotel), but I can't imagine the person at the front desk saying to me, "Oh, Mr. Goodman, I see you're a Preferred Plus Guest...we've got an upgraded room on a preferred floor for you," but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've never been given late check-out with either status.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but by paying with the AMEX Starwood Card, don't you effectively receive the 50% bonus anyway? For example, as an SPG, you'll receive 2 points per dollar for your stay, plus 1 point per dollar spent on the Card? In other words, the 1 point you'll receive just paying with the card is equal to the 1 bonus point you'll receive as a gold.

Am I missing something?

Sam P. Goodman Apr 7, 2005 9:15 pm

Yes and no. You technically earn 4 points per dollar if Gold and paying with the AMEX.
