"Corporate Preferred" and "Preferred Plus" programs

I am doubtful regarding my ability to renew my elite status for 2003.

Apparently, I am eligible for free "Starwood Corporate Preferred" status through a professional organization. Alternatively, by purchasing travel five times through Travelocity, I can get "Starwood Preferred Plus" status.

Both of these programs allow for complimentary room upgrades, which is the reason I am interested. No elite bonus miles, however.

Does anyone have any real-world experience with these programs, particularly in the room upgrade category? Would the desk clerks be clueless if I presented a card showing me as "Corporate Preferred" or "Preferred Plus"?

You could also be Preferred Plus if you were a Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express cardholder.

Preferred Plus benefits are pretty much the same as Corporate Preferred benefits with the exception of the 5th and 10th stay threshold bonuses. Preferred Plus has no elite bonuses; however, the credit card does for the first year of membership.

The benefits of Corporate Preferred membership in Starwood Preferred Guest are as follows:

- Two Starpoints per U. S. Dollar or equivalent spent on eligible charges.
- Ability to earn Starpoints on restaurant charges when not staying at a participating property. (US$10.00 Minimum)
- Personal profile information, including: floor, bedding, pillow, smoking preferences, and newspaper preferences.
- Choice of National or Financial weekday newspaper.
- Pre-blocked and pre-keyed room on day of arrival.
- Personalized, fast and efficient check-in.
- Special toll-free number for Starwood Preferred Guest related inquiries.
- Unlimited ability to transfer Starpoints between two accounts in the same household.
- Corporate Preferred membership credentials.
- Guaranteed late check-out of up to 4:00 p.m., based upon availability at resort properties and hotels that are considered to be conference destinations in peak season.
- Upgrade to a Preferred Room, subject to availability at time of check-in.
- Threshold bonus of 2,000 Starpoints after the 5th and 10th stays.

I recently(Oct) signup for a Starwood AE card with complimentary membership in Preferred Plus as a benefit. Does this status showup on SPG account info? Do you have to notify SPG?

William,

the credit card is only available for US residents though. Is there anything for us in the North? (Canada)

No, and it doesn't seem likely at the present.

Your status will be adjusted automatically once we receive the data from American Express.

old Corp Preferred SPG card had an expiration date, just got a new one without??

something i'm really confused by is that my old Corporate Preferred SPG card had an expiration date set to the end of this month.

then last week, i got a new Corporate Preferred SPG card in the mail. the new card came in a packet that said "Welcome to Corporate Preferred". the strange thing is, i'm obviously already a Corp SPG member, and the new card has the exact same old account number on it.
but, no more expiration date on the card. and the GP SET number is no longer printed on the card.

what does this mean?
why did the old cards have expiration dates, but the new one does not? same question about the GP num?
and why did i get a "Welcome to..." packet if i'm already a member?
this whole thing doesn't make sense.

There will no longer be an expiration date printed on Corporate Preferred membership cards. The reason is that as long as you remain employed with the company associated with this membership, you will be renewed automatically anyway. If you are no longer employed by them, the account will be downgraded to the next lowest applicable level. This is when you can probably expect to see an expiration date again. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Also, all the SET number did was confuse a lot of Corporate Preferred members, so it will also not be printed on their membership cards any longer.

Will my account change to Preferred Plus with my new AMEX card ?

I just received my new AMEX card and my online account still states, "Starwood Preffered Gueast." I was told that my card would entitle me to "Preffered Plus."

Does anyone have any information about this ?

Thank you for your help

Here's a link to some info on the "Preferred Plus" level: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/005576.html

Your status will change to Preferred Plus once American Express notifies us of your Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express cardholder status. I have no idea how long that takes.

What if you went from Gold to "Not Preferred http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif" but you are a current (and soon renewing) Amex card holder? Is the Preferred Plus status only for the initial signup or could someone get it in this case? I believe I have a corporate SET # as well that I don't use but could if that would help. I think Preferred Plus comes with the late checkout doesn't it?
