Thanks William. So basically you start off in Starwood Preferred Business and are invited to SET if your spending warrants it? Any way to go directly to SET? I find that we are asked to use clients' SET codes often when it would probably be better for us to get the same prices but be building a reputation of our own with *wood.

Yes, kind of like that. Starwood Preferred Business is offered to those companies whose volume does not qualify for a SET account. Companies that are Starwood Preferred Business accounts have their volume monitored on a regular basis and if they exceed the volume for Starwood Preferred Business, they are offered an upgrade to a SET account. But, if that should happen, you lose the ability to earn Starpoints for the company and operate using the SET account going forward.

If you want to inquire about starting off with a SET rate, then you can call the Customer Contact Center and ask to be transferred to that department.

Any way for a user to tell which one they belong to? Big companies = hard to find info.

For example, if I log onto spg.com, and it says

ExtraInRedShirt
Member Number: 999999999
Super-Duper Preferred Guest
Starpoints:20004920
3 more stays to Titanium
Does that tell me which group I fall in? :D

No. It isn't going to show online, as far as I know.

The only way I would know is if you were to call and make a reservation giving me your SET account number (or if it populated automatically). It would have a GP next to the company name if it was a Global Preference account and an SP next to the company name if it was a SET Preference account.

Or, you could just name the company and someone at the Customer Contact Center could pull it up to see which they were.

Corporate Preferred SPG?

Hi, I have been Corporate Preferred for a few years now. Is this any different than regular SPG Preferred?

gleff Jul 1, 2006 5:16 am

Corporate Preferred should be the equivalent of Preferred Plus which is basically Gold without the 50% bonus on SPG points earned via in-hotel spend.

CherylD Jul 1, 2006 7:20 am

Hi, Thanks for the info - I had checked the SPG site and could not find anything. :)

wendySFO Jul 1, 2006 10:48 am

I am wondering the same about what's the membership level for Corporate Preferred account as well. I got the account some years back and don't have any detail any more.

From the back of the card, it stated some benifits of:

o True Redemption, including free nights without restrictions
o 2 Startpoints per elibible US dollar spent
o upgrade to a Preferred Room at check-in
o 4:00PM late check-out (excludes some resorts)
o Complimentary weekday newspaper

Seems it is very close to Gold membership, except less points per dolloar spent?

Have anyone got upgrade with Corporate Preferred account? I have not experienced any but I have only limited number of SPG stays so far.

Hi Wendy, I have been upgraded and a fantastic one at that. I had a "free" room booked for my family of 4 at the Sheraton Maui. I assumed we would be stuck in the back of the hotel. They upgraded us to an oceanfront Ohana(family) suite. Sweet! Another time, I was at a Sheraton in Providence R.I. - not an upgrade, but there was a letter welcoming me as a corporate preferrred member along with a tray of water, cookies and fruit(complementary). These 2 events caused me to think that this corporate preferred status might have some weight over regular preferred.

Thanks for the great info. Most of my stays are with Hilton, but some up coming trips are in places have limited Hilton choices so I am looking into SPG and Marriot chains for alternatives. This is good to know Corporate Preferred status may help.

Preferred Business Guest

My other half's SPG status had changed from Platinum to something called Preferred Business Guest today. What exactly does that mean? I have never heard of Preferred Business Guest level. Is that the same as Platinum? The colours on the spg page remained the same as the colours for Platinum guest.

Sounds like it has probably changed to Corporate Preferred or Preferred Plus. A call to the Customer Contact Center will no doubt resolve the mystery. ;)

Thanks, William! Called SPG, and the agent said that it should still be Platinum, so its most likely a web site glitch. I hope...
