I have never experienced this before. I just called the hotel to discuss a reservation I have for tonight. I was hoping to switch the bed type in the room.
I called the main hotel number (not their toll-free number), and asked to be transferred to the front desk. To my surprise, I was told that the front desk does not take outside calls, but she could transfer me to reservations.
Has anybody experienced this before at any other property? I understand the front desk function might be a busy one, but it sends a very un-customer friendly message to be told they don't talk to customers…

Niagara is a bit funky they have their own inhouse system due to the company that operates the hotel owns a whole bunch of hotels in the area. Therefore they have their own unified system, however if you call the hotel they should be able to apply your SPG.

Trip Report Feb. 27 - March 2
Checked in on Saturday Feb. 27 after booking a one night stay using a Travel Zoo promo. City view room, 2 breakfast buffets, $50 dining voucher for dinner and two Sky Wheel vouchers ($20 value) all for $119 CDN. If we chose to stay longer, all of this would be duplicated for every night of our stay. However, some of the reviews of this property were a bit sketchy so we didn't want to commit to more than one night without seeing the place first.
Upon check in, we were given an SPG Platinum upgrade to a Junior Presidential Suite w/o asking, room 1521, facing the falls. Room is quite nice - small kitchenette, bedroom with two very comfortable queen beds with a 32" HD TV, bathroom is spacious with a nice two person jaccuzi tub, sitting area had a dining room table with chairs, a sitting chair, a rather stained pullout sofa, another great HDTV and one of those electric fireplace things which is nice, in my opinion.
So for that price, can't really go wrong. However:
- the lobby is among the most boring - very little place to sit, no Sheraton "Link" yet either
- they are building a Milestones restaurant, but in the meantime, you can use "Stanley's Lounge", if you can ever find it open to the public
- the breakfast and dinner buffets, as a result, are all served in banquet rooms which is far from a romantic Niagara Falls setting
- last night we tried to use our dinner voucher for an a la carte meal in the lounge and were told we'd have to come back after 8 due to a private function...in the meantime a fire alarm was pulled and when we finally made it back down to the lounge, were told that as a result, all we could have was a turkey club with salad...staff were very polite in offering to comp. our $20 parking and offer us another $50 voucher for the next night (on top of the one we did not use last night) to be applied to another dinner
- tried the lounge tonight and were told to come back after 8 due to another private function
- swimming pool area is spacious with a hot tub but has a pretty boring look and lighting - this thing could use a facelift
All in all, we're satisfied with our stay primarily because of a) our suite upgrate as a Plat, b) the way management handled our dinner fiasco last night, and c) it was a pretty quiet room (possibly because it's low season).

2-I understand that you are facing thev American Falls. Do you also have a good view of the Canadian Falls?
3-Are the Falls in the Frozen mode?
ENJOY YOUR STAY!

Sheraton Falls view Niagara Falls
I stayed there the othe night and for a PLAT I think they were the rudest people ever. Before new mgmt, I would get free parking and points for all my roome, now I do not. I'm cancelling my stay on April 17th and I have to book 10 rooms in June, and they will all go to the Hilton. Next time they want me there, they should be nicer.

Booked with points & treated like 2nd class citizens
booked a room w/points. Have never stayed there before but the website indicates a beautiful hotel in an ideal location. That may be but our room had a view of an interior concrete hallway and the room itself had peeling wallpaper. Voicemail instructions were in Spanish which the front desk said they would change but never did. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign in the room so we were awakened in the morning by housekeeping tho we had waited up till almost midnight for a child's rollaway. I doubt we would ever stay at this facility again. It was our first bad experience booking w/points and we have stayed and Starwoods in Hawaii, Canada, Orlando, FL and many points in between. And have been members since 1998. We'll stick with Starwood but never stay at the Sheraton Falls View again

Oddly enough, I avoid the Sheraton Fallsview like the plague, and much prefer the Sheraton on the Falls!
The Sheraton Fallsview is stingy to SPG Golds (stayed on a quiet night and wasn't even upgraded without having to spend points for an upgrade!).
Compare this to the Sheraton on the Falls...100% upgrade success, (even one time on a Hotwire stay!), to a 'deluxe fallsview' room. Amazing!
Sheraton on the Falls is my fave! I'm going there on Friday and I see my room has already been pre-upgraded!

Becomes Marriott Gateway on the Falls - Mar 21
Converting to:
Marriott Gateway on the Falls
I know it's a bit odd, as all other Marriott Gateways are at airports, but I called the hotel and that's the exact name they gave.

Wont miss this one....hopefully they will spend some money to upgrade the 1970's rooms. Now they can take a crack at mistreating the Marriott Plat's as they have already had years of practice on *wood Plat's A whole new group of people to p.o., It like a new voyage.
