Hi yesletsski,

I'm in a residential suite, not the presidential suite. I'm not sure I could talk them into that one, although it sounds like it's worth a try. All they can do is say no.

We saw 3 suites types while staying at the hotel, but none were called the residential. We saw the presidential suite, prime minister suite and one other that I can not recall the name. It was not the residential. The other two suites each had 3 rooms with a large bathroom. They have a bedroom, good size living room and a small room with a refirg. Only the presidential was 2 story with the floor to ceiling windows. All of the suites we saw were on the 20th floor and had great falls views.

I just check Fallsview website again and they have residence suite. it looks like it has the floor to ceiling windows and I'm pretty sure it is a corner room. It says it has a bedroom also. I sure hope you are right and that I'm in the presidential suite.

I stayed in the Prime Ministers Suite 2 years ago in July/Aug? thanks to my concierge. She topped off my account to make sure that we could then also stay at the Sherton on Queen St in TO. She phoned ahead and mentioned that I was a Plat member taking a women I planned to propose to and volia.... Prime Ministers Suite and now a wife as well

Thanks Starwood.

Enjoy Niagra. I'm from TO originally and hope that anyone who goes there has a great time.

Westin Fallsview!?

According to this page on Westin's web-site, there's a Westin Fallsview coming in January 2009.

My bet is that it will be the current Sheraton Fallsview -- renovated and rebranded to Westin. That will end the Sheraton confusion in Niagara Falls, and will bring a much needed upper end property to the area.

Goodness, it has been a long time since we've had any reports on this property. You'll find a few comments on this thread, which compares the two Sheratons in Niagara Falls.

I stayed here last week. The property looked virtually unchanged from my last stays at the FV from early 2006.

Was given upgrade to Junior Presidential Suite (an xx21 room). This is the same room that used to be called a Residential Suite. Great view, kitchen, dining room, large bathroom with whirlpool. Given 2 free buffet coupons because lounge was closed. Parking was $20 per nite, a bit of a ripoff considering my room was only C$107 per night. Hotel virtually empty, which made buffet, parking and quiet particularly enjoyable.

Also, flopped four 3's playing poker at the Casino down the block There is a steakhouse in the casino complex which has an amazing full-course dinner (I had surf and turf, appy and dessert) for C$30. The steak alone is normally >C$40.

stayed here on the weekend - not terribly impressed.

hotel was 1/2 full, 20 bucks parking still - free at teh casino i suppose with a players card, but its a bit of a walk.

my biggest issue was that the website still shows that it has a lounge, which made me book it over the embassy suites (which is better location, and all suites). when i got there all i got was "no -we closed the lounge for good about 4-5 months ago". so essentially i paid more, got less, and they weren't nice about it either.

i am plat and was put in a city view room, with a gorgeous view of the construction site across the road. when i went down to ask if there as any upgrade available a second attendant (much nicer and clearly more knowledgeable) said "oh you're platinum and they gave you THAT room?" and proceeded to switch me to at least the falls side.

overall i give the hotel a 4 out of 10 at most. the sheraton on the falls is much nicer. but on the other hand, at the sheraton on the falls you don't have paper thin walls, and i wouldn't have been so entertained by my neighbours who seemed to be having an amazing bachelor party. the gf is not as impressed and probably gives the hotel a few fewer points.

Great Place to Spend a Night in BUF

My UA flight BUF-IAD, last one of the night, was canceled and I had to spend a night somewhere. Instead of a night at one of the motels around BUF that were all charging around $140/night, I decided to rent a car and drive to Niagara Falls, which was only 28 miles from Buffalo Airport. I called Plat Concierge before leaving the airport and got the CAD 101.15 prepaid rate.

I was upgraded to a Fallsview Whirpool room xx19. I was also provided with a coupon for a free appetizer plate at Stanley's, the only place that was open with food at 10:30 PM and a coupon for breakfast buffet. The bartender said the appetizer sampler plate the kitchen prepared was the biggest she has ever seen. The breakfast buffet was only OK, nothing special. Valet parking was CAD 25.

The room itself was nice, with a direct view of Horseshoe Falls and American Falls in the fog. The view would have been great except for the rain and then fog in the morning. The view is definitely much better than at Sheraton on the Falls on my previous stay a year ago.

This was a great Plan B for a a way to deal with forced overnight in BUF. I would also select Fallsview Sheraton over Sheraton on the Falls for location and the view.

Thought I'd throw in my two cents with the last two posters, since I agree with much of what they say.

First off, if you're in the Buffalo area (and have a passport handy) Niagara Falls is a close escape, even though the Canadian casinos don't offer free booze

As for the hotel, I have somewhat mixed opinions much like jeff3380. First off, I was talking to plat. concierge while traveling to the hotel (to book another hotel later in the week) and casually asked if I had been given a suite at this hotel (fully aware that the hotel has plenty of suites, I've heard as many as 20%+). It turns out I hadn't been upgraded. While I understand Aug. is still peak season for them, I was thinking that the high value of the Canadian dollar must be killing tourism (I can verify this, having stayed there). Anyway, plat. concierge put a call into the hotel (after noticing they had "lots" of suites still listed as available to book) and I was upgraded to a "whirlpool suite," xx01 room. So basically, without prodding, the hotel had no plans of giving me a suite, having only "upgraded" me from a city view room to fallsview standard room.

I get to the hotel and find they are at about 50% capacity, making me more ticked the only reason I was upgraded was that plat. concierge personally called the hotel to upgrade me. While the hotel looks very nice (recent renovations look good), the parking rate ($20) is absurd for the area, as previously discussed. While I wish the club were open, I was happy with a free app. plate at night & free breakfast buffet in the am.

As for the room, it had a great view, but was far below my expectations in terms of features, and was in no way a "suite." Basically it was a standard room with a couch, & a tub with jets in the bathroom. Also, while I'm on a rant, they have 4 elevators for 30 floors...so you can imagine how long it takes to get up/down.

I have always felt that suburban Sheratons are on a totally different standard from major cities & resorts, but this hotel seems caught in the middle. They seem to think they're deserving of big city pricing (most nights are $220+ a night, while nearby Marriott & Hilton are $175ish) and demand a premium on parking but only need to deliver modest service.

While I won't avoid this hotel (it at least offers breakfast for plats) I can't say I'll be going out of my way to stay at a hotel that doesn't seem to upgrade plats.

FYI: I had family coming into town as well, so I checked with the hotel to see if I booked the res (under my plat number) if they would at least "upgrade" them to the xx01 room I had, since my family needed a pull-out couch for kids. They said no, I was only entitled to one upgrade. Fair enough, but I was trying to give them an extra room, which they apparently had plenty to spare. Anyway, they ended up staying (against my suggestion) and paid for a suite that had a "separate sitting room with pull-out couch" so their son would have his own room. They were given another xx01 room. They weren't happy.

Sheraton Fallsview – Front Desk Does Not take outside calls

I have never experienced this before. I just called the hotel to discuss a reservation I have for tonight. I was hoping to switch the bed type in the room.

I called the main hotel number (not their toll-free number), and asked to be transferred to the front desk. To my surprise, I was told that the front desk does not take outside calls, but she could transfer me to reservations.

Has anybody experienced this before at any other property? I understand the front desk function might be a busy one, but it sends a very un-customer friendly message to be told they don't talk to customers…
