I know the RC in Singapore doesn't participate in Bonvoy, so I won't earn points, and generally they don't care about your status (though in the past i've gotten a courtesy upgrade for Plat). My questions are:
1. Will the nights there count towards my Plat qual even if they aren't earning points 2. If I use an SPG branded AMEX will this spend earn 6x points, or will it be just 1:1, in which case i'll use a CSR and 3x it. Thanks! For the first question, the nights there would not count towards your elite membership status as they are not during a Qualifying Stay at a Participating Property. We will check with the appropriate team for the answer of the second question. |

For your second question we can tell you, that you can earn the normal double points for a spend at non participating properties. The 6x points would be available for participating Marriott Bonvoy properties only. |
Late checkout possible?
I know this property doesn’t participate in the RC/Bonvoy program, but I was just wondering how late checkout is handled if it’s asked for. Do they charge extra for it? Is it sometimes given as a courtesy? We have an evening flight out (approx 5pm) and we’ll also be with young children. It would be nice to still be able to use the facilities before our flight. |

Slightly OT, but today I discovered a mix up in my bookings, meaning a hotel void to fill for a week. After a few phone calls it turned out my choices were Fairmont or Ritz based on negotiated rates (apparently cruise ships are docked as well as summer holidays in China, so a lot of the 5*s are reasonably full, at least in base rooms). I decided to split my week to try both - 3 nights Ritz, 2 nights Fairmont. I arrived at Ritz a bit hot and bothered this afternoon as I walked with my carry on (mistake), and my initial impression was so so ... coaches departing, so queues for check in / out, and more chaotic than I expected. A glass of cold water and a cold towel would have been amazing, but I decided to sit and cool down / take a call. I proceeded to check in and after a lot of typing and calling by the agent, she very politely explained she had tried to find a marina facing room but none were ready so it would be Kallang facing (base) ... breakfast was offered, but I declined as I rarely eat more than a yogurt in the mornings. Special thanks were given for being Ambassador and genuine apologies no benefits were available as Ritz is not part of the programme. Room one was nice enough but nothing amazing , basically a limited view and quite noise from traffic (I admit I’m sensitive to noise). Anyway I called down and asked if perhaps I could move to a marina facing room after dinner and I’d not unpack. Same agent as check in said she’d try her best, leave my carry on with the concierge. Off I went for dinner, and when I returned ... WOW. A lovely low floor deluxe suite, perhaps a tad dated for my tastes, but well kept, and a luxurious feel, and of course amazing views! If there’s one negative, it would be the sound insulation still isn’t great (windows and doors), but can be forgiven. Bed is sooo comfy. Even the negotiated rate is quite a bit more than say JW, Conrad etc, but if you can get a suite upgrade, it is a pretty nice alternative and impressive ... something I’d consider for a special occasion, as it does indeed feel very special. I’ll try out the spa and room service tomorrow... *quick update, spa was very good (perhaps I’m bias as I use La Mer products) and room service was prompt and tasty. I’m already thinking of another stay... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...13aa84c6c.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7aacfe9a5.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a3c8cff1b.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8bfe7cf92.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c814e5c4d.jpeg |
What's the point of this hotel being offered on Marriott.com if it offers no Bonvoy benefits?

I guess the *benefits* for RC would be points earned for some expenses, ability to use Marriott points to redeem nights there (50,000 points is a steal in my opinion, especially most of the times the per night rate is well over $1,000 USD), and I've never been turned down for a 4 p.m. check-out. I'm told most Marriott elites get upset when they are denied usage of lounge, as it's pay-to-use basis.
