As of July 2023, the Elite happy hour benefit is a single drink voucher from a limited menu (Margarita, Tequila Sunrise, and one other drink I can't remember).

This was an automatic upgrade. We were perhaps one of the first 5 people to check in on that day, which may have helped

I called Comfort to reserve a taxi to pick me up for the airport. Keep in mind that when you call and advance book a taxi at a particular time there is an S$8 surcharge!

So how long is the taxi ride from the airport and approximately how much? Are the drivers knowledgeable about the location?

I'll be staying there this weekend for the F1 race. I was thinking about taking MRT, but apparently that's not an option.

Depends on the time of the day and if there are jams on the expressway. But from Changi to Sentosa shouldn't take more than 30 mins. Cabbies may not be too familiar with W at Sentosa Cove just yet as it just opened.

1. Taxi ride if unimpeded = ~ 30mins. 45-50 in traffic

2. Price = guesstimate less than SGD50. But there are Sentosa entry surcharges. When you get to the entry gantry which looks like those at Disneyland - get the driver to stop and show the booth person your hotel stay printout - should be able to waive that charge

3. I'm guessing they won't know the W Singapore if you tell them. But tell them Sentosa Cove or the 1 Degree 15 Club and they should be able to find it. You can also help guide them: a. after the main Sentosa entry gantry - take the left turn towards Sentosa Cove at the road circus. b. follow that road/signs all the way to Sentosa Cove. c. At the Sentosa Cove entry gantry, take the first left turn and go all the way in about 600m

4. MRT from Changi Airport to the Vivocity Mall is feasible. Check the map http://www.smrt.com.sg/Trains/NetworkMap.aspx - only one change needed, at Outram station. That puts you at the Mall opposite Sentosa Island. You can then take the Sentosa Express monorail across, and at the Arrival Plaza wait for the Sentosa Cove Shuttle. The shuttle also picks up people at Vivocity itself. That drops you off at the Sentosa Cove entry gantry, and it's a 600m walk after that, unless the hotel's buggys are up and running. You need to find out if the shuttle takes non-residents but I'm presuming it does.

This is normal at any W, so it shouldn't be expected... W's don't have lounges or happy hours and didn't give free continental breakfasts to Platinums until the changes earlier this year.

Thanks for the other notes though. Scheduled to stay here in early October, but might switch to my usual hotel (Conrad). Not sure I want to deal with a lot of Taxis considering how much there is to walk to around the Esplanade (and easy SMRT access)...

Do allow me to post the following response on behalf of the property.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the feedback and comments on W Singapore-Sentosa Cove. We really appreciate your understanding of how an opening hotel will have some flaws at some point that may not meet the expectations, but it is your advice that guides us through to reaching your satisfaction.

All the comments shared in the above reviews, from guest services to the facilities are all being addressed by our relevant departments for improvements and solutions. I can assure you the adjustments are on-going, and we will improve in a short period of time.

We understand there are disappointments during your stay, but we still hope in the near future you can stop by our hotel and check us out, you may be surprised!

All the best,

EVERY taxi I've been in the past 2 days, have no idea where the W is and have never heard of it. I took the hotel card (which has a map) to show the drivers but they are still suspicious. I was also once asked if it's a house not a hotel...

Furthermore, as you go in you will hit the W residence first, and taxi drivers tends to stop there. You have to actually go further in down the road to get to the hotel.

Haven't stayed here yet but will do so shortly as W is my favorite Starwood brand. ^

With regards to various posters complaining about not getting a Marvelous Suite as a PLT:

In W lingo the suite hierarchy is actually like this

Fantastic Suite ----> That's usually in the pool of "select standard suites" for upgrades
This is the one that you should not find bookable when an upgrade hasn't been forthcoming.

Marvelous Suite ----> You get one as a PLT upgrade, they are doing you a favor

Wow Suite ---> Unlikely to snag as a PLT upgrade unless maybe you are a regular and have been at that property dozens of times

Extreme Wow Suite ---> Very unlikely. Getting an upgrade here would be a lottery win.

Let's take my experiences at W Hong Kong.

As a Plat who never stayed there I got Fantastic Suites and when they were full I got a "cool corner room". After establishing a pattern of monthly stays for about a year I now get a Marvelous Suite if no Fantastic Suite is available. If I were to check in and not get a suite upgrade, I couldn't complain if there are Marvelous Suites for sale. They're 1 level above the "select standard suites" that are for PLT upgrades.

We should make a W - English, English - W dictionary. They do have some interesting job titles and room nomenclature.

Like calling housekeeping staff 'ROOM STYLIST'?
That always gives me a chuckle. Especially when I hear it said when the staff knocks on the door.

Actually, if you look at the room nomenclature for W Singapore, it's:
. Wonderful Room -> Spectacular Room -> Fabulous Room
. Marvelous Suite -> WOW Suite -> E-WOW

and they have their spa rooms which I believe are not part of the upgrade pool:
. Away Room and Away Suite

They don't "have" Fantastic Suites unlike other properties just like they don't have Fantastic Rooms or Cool Corner Rooms.

Does that imply that Marvelous Suites are their "standard" suites or that they don't have "standard" suites and any upgrades are "favors"? Well, until someone from the hotel comes out and says so one way or the other, I'm going to assume that these are their "standard" suites.

Err, from the record here, they upgraded 3 out of 4. Of course, 1 had to fight for it. If you stayed in W HK and they didn't give you a Fantastic Suite wouldn't you be sad too? :P

There are no Fantastic Suite at this property but "Away Suites" instead. If you check the rates you'd find Away Suites and Marvelous Suites have the same & lowest rates out of all the suites so I don't think it's too much to expect to be upgraded to a Marvelous Suite until we know what's in the standard upgrade pool at W Singapore.
