expiracy policy of Marriott reward

Does Marriott reward point expire if one do not have activity for a period of time? What is the policy? I have not stayed at Marriott for the past 18 months. I just worry that the points can become expired.

Thanks,

tylorcl

The official policy is that any account with no activity over a 24 month period can be closed with the loss of all points. But in general, I haven't heard or seen Marriott actually enforce this rule. A couple of years ago, I remembered that my wife used to travel and had a Marriott account. She had not used it for almost 8 years. The account was still active and the points were still usable. ^

But with that said, Marriott could decide to enforce their rules at any time. Given that it is extremely easy to get some points into an account (cheap one night stay, CC, purchase points, online purchases, etc.) there really isn't a reason to let an account go that long without some activity.

Thank you very much, hhoope01!

My last activity is Oct 2006. So I think I need to figure out how to have ONE activity before Oct 2008.

HHonours does enforce the expiring policy while Priority Club points never expire. Somebody needs to make a comparison among the difference program.

I don't think Marriott cares if someone used to be a pirate. ;)

(I just couldn't resist)

points never expire?

It's 14 months since I booked any Marriott activity. I phoned to ask how long points stay credited and was told that they never expire. Before I do nothing, please confirm that is true.

I didn't find any rule on the Marriott web page, but I have a note to myself that they are valid for 24 months. I'll get a credit card when/if I need to.

Marriott points do not expire. They reserve the right to take away points without 24 months of activity. However, they have never enforced this.

To clarify a little more, they have the right to close your MR account after 24 months of activity.

I thought it was something like that. CO has a similar policy where miles do not expire, although their T&Cs state that they can take them after a period of inactivity.

keeping account alive - Marriott Mall questions

Hi, I have about 40k Marriott Rewards points with an expiration of 4/09. I made a purchase in December through the Marriott Mall of about $1, in order to earn 1 mile and keep my account alive. That purchase posted on my statement dated 1/2/09.

1. How long before I should expect to see that point show up in my Marriott account?

2. Is there any chance that because the charge was for 99 cents (< $1) I will NOT earn 1 Marriott Reward point? I guess I could have bought 2 songs, just didn't think about it at the time.

3. Other than booking before the devaluation, any great tips for using 40k points? We are thinking of a trip to Vegas or Puerto Rico in the spring, if that helps...

I am interested in responses to your question. I thought Marriott points never expired.

I don't think they expire, but I thought accounts could be closed with no activity in 24 months...

An account may be closed at Marriott's discretion if no points are accrued during a 24-month period. All points in the account will be forfeited at that time.

That is a T&C that has never been enforced by Marriott.

The mall posts usually take a very long time to post for me. Often between 8-12 weeks. They take so long that they are usually a "pleasant surprise" when they do post because I have already forgotten about the purchase.

ok, any tips for using 40k at good value? Have never redeemed Marriott points before, is there a 'sweet spot' of value (hotel category, I mean)?

Easiest way to keep points from expiring

What is the easiest (and CHEAPEST) way to keep points from expiring? I understand that the threshold is 24 months of inactivity.
