thanks for the insight.. i should be fine since i'm still pretty active with my stays and with my Marriott Visa, but it's good to know that there are no guarantees with re. to points.

I know Marriott & IHG are pretty good about not zeroing out balances at the 12 month mark. Not sure about the other chains (Hilton definitely does, although they've gotten better about giving notice).

Cheers. IHG has points never expire policy. Marriott does not enforce the expiration policy, nor the Silver status which seems once there, it is there forever even without activity or credit card ownership. So was Hyatt but that would change after the devaluation announcement this year. They said they would start enforcing the expiration policy starting this year. Both HHonor and SPG delist your account after 12 months non-activity. However on HHonors forum there are reports that a phone call to HHonors the accounts were promptly reactivated and points restored, WITHOUT a fee. Both used to have very narrowly defined activities in order to keep account alive - namely only paid stay and CC charges. Though they have changed that since last year, now an award stay would take care of that from what I understand but not 100% verified. |

how long until points expire?
I do not use my marriot account very often- but I do have a decent amount of points built up - how often do I have to have activity before my account is deleted and I lose my points?

Points don't expire at marriott. You can leave them in your account for a decade and they'll still be there waiting for your return! No doubt heavily devalued.
I think the T&Cs do allow for point expiration but Marriott makes a very big thing about the fact they don't and I've not heard of anyone suffering expiry. |

Marriott Rewards points expiry timeframe?
Hi all,
I've got a bunch of points saved up and the last transaction date was September 2nd, 2013. Do you know if I have to stay somewhere in the next couple of days to keep these points active or do I have more time? I am finding mixed results:
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

Before I actually started paying attention to these programs very recently, I had three SPG accounts and each time lost points because there were some 12 month periods where I never stayed at a W. I had the same thing happen with Hilton, I think twice. Now I ensure I stay at least once every 12 months and have not lost points since :)! |
AwardWallet (perhaps getting the data from Marriott.com) believes there's a 2-year expiration (if no activity).
