This is also my experience. I did not stay at any Marriott properties for 4/5 years and my points were still there. Naturally I lost with devaluation/s but this is my fault.

From one of many of the Marriott rules pages. So not only do you loose your points, but your account "may be closed." That's rather harsh. What about your lifetime stays?

Wowoo, Marriott! This IS harsh!

Thanks for the input guys. While I am no longer in rush now to get create an activity in my account. I will try to get a few points in my account, by going for lunch or drinks at one of their restaurants.

Did you read somewhere this would count for earning points if you are not staying in one of their hotels?

I've never had a reason to look for this info. for Marriott specifically, but I know in many other chains it won't count as activity unless you are a staying guest in the hotel.

Why not just do a point transfer into Marriott or a point purchase? This should count as activity.

It is harsh, if implemented, but I've never heard of it being done. (That's not to say it never has, but like others on this board I let my account sit for nearly 5 years -- it was in the '90s -- and when I went back the points were still there. YMMV, of course.)

Worked for me at SPG hoping that it would work at Marriott too.

It won't unless you have the credit card -- and then it still may not, but not to matter as you would earn points from the credit card for any charge.

Without staying try the Marriott Rewards Mall or a car rental partner to earn MR points.

I didn't think MR had expiration dates? Did you call customer service?

Worse case, you have to do something to keep the account active, like spend some points to buy something cheap from the catalog.

Can you be a little more specific. Points shouldnt expire, to my knowledge (unlike other programs, like SPG, where you have to have activity yearly to maintain your points)

Technically the T&C says:

A Membership Account may be closed at the Company's discretion if no Points or Miles are accrued during a 24-month period. All Points in the Membership Account will be forfeited at that time.

But I don't believe anyone has ever reported their accounts being closed or points expiring due to inactivity. Perhaps Award Wallet is just going by the language in the T&C?

My guess is Award Wallet is going by the T&Cs. Ed French mentioned one time that they don't expire the points.

If OP is worried, he can just buy 1,000 points for $12.50 on the Marriott website. That will act as activity.

Cheers.

I have not been able to contact customer service so far. Wait time to talk to a representative is 30 mins and being at work, I can't do that.
