Got this the last few years but did not this year (birthday was earlier this week)
Not worth pursuing already at 75 on the dot and no added benefit to anything over 75 anyway

I received an email from Marriott in 2018 that said:
"A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE AWAITS.
Let's celebrate you, NAME. Add your birthday to your member profile and you'll get a special gift each year."
I added my birthday and received the 1 elite night birthday credit in 2018. However, in 2019 I didn't receive anything for my birthday -- and yes, I'm still opted into all communications and receive marketing emails from Bonvoy weekly. It's a bit disappointing that the email promised "a special gift each year" in exchange for adding more personal info to my profile, and then Marriott isn't following through on their side of the deal.

I just checked my Profile and my birthday is in there, which means it's been in there many years.
I have never received any email or surprise gifts for my Birthday. I didn't even realize Marriott had such a thing. No surprise.
Maybe as LTT at 1057 Lifetime nights, I don't need 1 elite night credit.

I didn’t get anything last year either but I did notice my birthday was also wrong by one day so I had to call to get it corrected. It seems like another IT glitch because I’m sure I inputted it correctly - I have feeling that when my SPG account merged I had to call in due to technical issues so it could have been human error on the phone. Nonetheless not even a happy birthday email, which I find incredible since airlines and other business do that almost too easily yet when we spend considerable money and nights at Marriott hotels, they can’t even be bothered to send a computer-generated happy birthday email (even without a promo, gift etc).

Hi escapefromphl! This promotion in no longer a yearly automatic award, and members are now chosen randomly to receive an elite night credit on their birthday. If you didn't receive an email this year indicating that you were chosen, we would not be able to add the elite night credit to your account.
Thanks,

that seems like a bizarre way to recognize loyalty.. What determines selection?

Marriott is a corporation, The officers for Marriott, as for almost every other successful corporation, owe their allegiance is to its shareholders.
Giving away free nights to tens of millions of Bonvoy members doesn't help the profit margin.

What determines how anything works in Marriott’s IT system? It’s now impossible to differentiate between random, selected or IT errors. A true service offering for our post-truth times.

I've forwarded the email I quoted to Bonvoy Lurker.
While 1 EQN has no significant practical impact to me as someone who requalified for Titanium by May, I bring it up because it gives the impression that Marriott is not honoring their commitments made during the merger, and it is particularly discomforting in light of the data breach. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that this policy change was an oversight rather than intentionally reneging, and by bringing it to their attention they at least have a chance to address it. Ball's in their court.

No birthday elite night for me this year either
I also did NOT receive my 1 free elite night birthday credit email this year in July. This 1 elite night credit was a nice gesture from Marriott of their appreciation of my loyalty. I missed receiving it this year after having received it for several years in a row. I would love for marriott to reconsider their position on this. I believe it costs them very little, yet it really makes an impact on the member receiving it. (By the way Newman, Marriott is not giving members extra free night stays; it’s just a 1 night elite credit toward a member’s status.)
