THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

If I buy VGCs with a linked MC, but put in a different phone number than the one it is linked to, do I get Giant gas rewards on the number I punched in and FR rewards on the linked account?

The FR points earned by using MC are showing expiry of 4/15/2018, which is not the normal practice.

Since you just bought VGC's this morning, you've only received the points for the S&S 2x points promo. The MC points take a few days to post to your account. Those will expire end of May.

Yeah, my FR account increased by $3.00 for the 3 VGCs I bought today. I assume that, after the customary 48 hour waiting period, it will increase another $2.25 for my Mastercard bonus.

I think I can wait those 48 hours to buy gas, but if I were to go before then with my FR card, would I get more than $1.50 off the fill-up?

You'll get whatever extra (few cents) discount you get with FR, but nothing from today's purchases. I'd suggest waiting if you can.

Thanks. Given the sweetness of this deal, it's hard to complain about the two-day-waiting-period on FR, but it does mean you have to think about it a bit more.

Of course, when there's a sale like this week's, you also have to try to do a calculation of how much gas you're likely to use in the next 30 days. Who the heck in the "real world" ever does that?

Yea, I usually try to buy some first day of the promotion week and definitely buy some on the last day too to extend the 30 days.

My bad, you're right, the points currently posted into the FR are actually the Giant points. Apologies for my stupidity.

Yep, if you time your purchases you can get a free week of gasoline during the promo + another 30 days afterwards. Good timing for me as I have to make a BOS - NYC drive this wknd, already filled up tonight, and will need another full tank of gas on Monday.

HA!, I need to figure out ow much fuel I will use between now and the end of May (since no sign of any extension of the MC promo)

Guessing your 30-day gas needs is hard; trying to do anything other than "ballpark" your anticipated needs through the end of May seems impossible!

I also think that FR is also only a good-but-not-fantastic deal without the extra Giant points. I've basically been buying 3 VGCs for $18 and getting 20 gallons of gas and the credit card points. I've been using a Jetblue MC (one's options are pretty limited with Mastercards!) and those points are probably worth $45 in Jetblue travel. I think that's a worthwhile transaction (especially since getting penny gas is fun), but it's not an unbelievable deal.

Assuming the MC offer is not extended, I'll probably buy a few more VGCs next week before this promo ends figuring there will be another Giant gas deal by the end of May that I can get $1.50 off and then use some remaining FR points for the "overage" on the gas. If not, the world won't end.

BTW, does anyone know a way to use Giant fuel points WITHOUT tapping your FR points? In the past, if I guessed wrong and had extra expiring Giant fuel points, I would tell a friend or family member to go use my phone number and get cheap gas (talk about making your friends happy!). But now, if I did that, they'd also drain my non-expiring FR points, which would cost me money. Is there a workaround? This might be valuable next month because most of us will probably error and have too many Giant points in 30 days as we seek to stockpile some FR points for May gas purchases.

And then separately fund that account and keep track of both, right? But that would make it more difficult to use FR points to cover the "overage" above the $1.50 provided by Giant.

Seems even more complicated. Looks like F&F are going to get less cheap gas.

there’s only one account that can be linked to MCs so if you buy VGCs using the new account phone number, the new account will only get the $1.50 off Giant rewards.
