I had some time today to test these out. I bought one at Office Max and used it down the street at WM to get a $199.30 MO without problems. Then I went back to Office Max and bought four more. On my way home I successfully purchased MOs at S&S and Hannaford's as well. I was UNSUCCESSFUL at getting a MO at the post office. The clerk told me it was giving her a "invalid card type" message each time.

passed by OD and picked up five Dining Everywhere. I experimented at a WM with a working Kate and friendly MC cashier.

1. loaded 200 to GoB using Kate. Approved
2. loaded 200 to WMpref using Kate. Approved
3. bought 599.30 MO at the Money Center doing 3 split tender $200 each swipe. Printed Document 1 and receipt.

Overall, it looks like success varies depending on where the GCs are processed. This is just at one WM, I'm not sure if it's going to work at all the other WMs. Will do more experiments if I can buy more DEVGCs.

I can confirm these are not working at all WMs. Very strange. Either there's inconsistencies with the cards themselves or at register. Know others who are now stuck with these because they couldn't get them to work at their limited area and as Mami said PO is no go. Be careful with these. Even if you find a place that works I'd be very hesitant to trust that every card you buy ends up working. And, the issuer is not being helpful to some because they think you're just not using it at the appropriate place. Packages are clearly marked that these may not work everywhere.

Did people already forget the HIGC disaster? Why are they calling the issuer and bringing attention to using it not as intended (ie at a location not supposed to be supported by the card)

Ok, so I played around a bit more today with these to test out the WM issues since I was going to be on the road most of the day anyhow. Bought five more cards this morning and hit up four different WMs during my travels today.

1st WM - Supercenter WN - Worked for MO
2nd WM - Non Supercenter - DID NOT Work for MO
3rd WM - Supercenter - Worked for MO
4th WM - Supercenter - Worked for MO

Stopped at 1st WM again on ride home to try VGC that did not work at 2nd WM and it DID work there so maybe it's working at Supercenters since they generally post as "Grocery" and not the non-Supercenter WMs. Just my results. As always YMMV.

Because some people are ignorant. It amazes me this thread even exists, but now that it does people should be warned about these since they don't work everywhere like normal VGCs. People should not be encouraged to go out and get a bunch of these. This forum has a lot of newbies and I hate seeing stories about newbies getting in a jam financially because they trusted someone on here and the method ended up not working for them like it did for the other person.

Its a cheap lesson for a newbie. If you don't have a plan B and can't afford a loss, you shouldn't be in this game. People should be encoraged to try and expirement.

I used to be on FT all day before n now prob check once in a while. Jus becaz this space is filled with newbies who don't want to read bt want to make all the points/miles in one shoot. Got tired of same questions repeating everytime.
MS is not for everyone. If you can't afford bunch of $200 Vgcs than this is not for you.

This.

if people don't try to see what works for them, they will never find new MS avenues/routes. For those who don't try, there should be no expectations of gains; MS is a fickle game, there are no guarantees, bounties await only those who keep trying.

one thing I've learned in this hobby is to always try what's out there; my findings revealed that what works for me may not work for others and vice versa. I do not just rely on what others say, I try it myself and many times I found out it works for me. that is why I pay it forward so others can try it themselves.

As mentioned in OP, if you find these, buy just one and see if you can easily drain it. If you can't drain it and find yourself stressed out liquidating a $200 card, ask yourself if this hobby is for you.

Good advice. I'm hoping more new readers are realizing the dangers involved by reading about people's experiences including negative ones. As long as they read and STUDY before jumping in, go slow and have backup plans they should be okay. It's the ones who don't read all the pages, jump ahead and assume things will work for them all the time that get in trouble. And of course, the ones who call companies and say things they shouldn't say that can hurt not only them but everyone else. Those are the ones we know didn't study enough of these threads.

IMO, people who get into MS should be accountable for their OWN actions. Information is out there, what one does with such information is up to each individual; I am not responsible for what others decide to do with their own funds and I don't reap whatever benefits they get from their actions. If people can make it work, good for them; buying a bunch of ANY giftcard, not just this one from OD is not a good idea if they have no back up plans on liquidating them. people will do as they please and they have their own reasons to do it. With that said, all newbies who come to FT must know what they're doing before applying anything they read on here.

as a reminder, all things MS are YMMV.

And even if they do work, they could quit working at any time without warning - that's the lesson I took away from HIGC. Don't get caught holding more than you can float.

Mamibear Aug 12, 2016 5:42 pm

Bought four remaining GCs @ OD and tried to buy $799.30 MO at WM hood market, 4 swipes. Printed Document 1 followed by receipt.

Was looking at my Ink+ account online just now and noticed Office Max/Office Depot doesn't code as "Office Supplies", but as "Wholesale Retailer". It's been over a year since I bought anything at OM/OD but I thought it coded as "Office Supplies" in the past. That makes these VGCs much less desirable :(

Try a different OD. Both near me code correctly and I can confirm 5UR/$ with Ink. Could just be that particular location.
