Office Depot variable Dining Everywhere Visa GC

While shopping for school supplies out of town, I saw a new to me variable GC at OD.

https://www.diningeverywheregift.com/

I know that fixed VGCs can be paid with CCs while this one says $20 to $200 so I tried to buy a few paid with INK+. This card is issued by Metabank, the last 4 digits of card number is the default PIN I used to buy MO at the grocery store. Fee for this card is 4.95. I have read in blogs this card is not available at all OD branches, so prepare to be disappointed if you don't see them at your OD.

This isn't as good as $20 off $300 Visa GC instant rebate OD offered in the past and I hope will come back soon.

I stopped in an OD the other day as it was right next to liquor store (my target) and I don't think I saw this. All I saw were ones up to $200 with a $6.95 fee. Didn't see any that go up to $500.

Were you actually able to buy with an INK?

I've read reports that this one doesn't work everywhere and some people have even had trouble at WM trying to use it. I've known about it since last week, done some tests and I'll just say people should be careful and not try to stock up or they could end up stuck with a lot of dinners, although they could resell it at a loss. It's YMMV spending these depending on each store, restaurant and so forth. The package even warns that it may not work at all restaurants. Other negative reports: can't use for Amazon or any online purchase, others say couldn't use to buy MO at grocery store, some called and company said "can only be used for food purchases". Can't believe they called.

Most locations removed the 500s a while back because no one would buy them anymore except ml'rs with lots of cash. Once they went to "no cc" and "cash only" these 500s sat on the racks completely useless to legit customers.

Yes although at first there was a message that flashed on the screen after I swiped my CC; I wasn't able to read what it says, then it went on to the signature screen, signed and receipt printed.

I went to the grocery store nearby to buy MO and they were accepted using the last 4 of each card number as PIN.

This OD still carry the fixed amount vanillas and variable vanillas up to $500 as well. The variable dining VGCs were with the BK,Starbucks,Chili's GCs. I'm surprised to find MBGCs at OD, will keep my eyes peeled for them at grocery stores.

To newbies who find these, make sure to try one or two initially and drain it successfully before stockpiling them for future liquidation. As always, caveat emptor.

Saw one of these at my local grocery chain as well. Plus, there was a style/fashion-branded VGC right below it (same $20-$200 variable), as well as a fuel-branded VCG next to it. The fuel card was also variable, but with a range of $20-$100. Same $4.95 fee on all.

Also noticed that the cards were branded 'Dining Everywhere', 'Style Everywhere' and 'Fuel Everywhere'. Clearly an extension of the 'Visa Everywhere' campaign.

The style card logo is 'Shop at fashion retailers everywhere visa debit is accepted'; fuel card says 'Use at gas stations everywhere visa debit is accepted' But Visa debit is Visa debit.

Seems to me this is just a marketing ploy. Couldn't tell any difference between any of the cards, other than the load limit. But, I'm sure plenty of people will assume otherwise....

Lol.

That said I failed at Walmart with one of the style ones.

Well, assuming one can find these and they really can be liquidated nearly as easily as regular VGCs (and we'll need more data for that), they seem to be a good deal with Ink cards (1025 points for $4.95, or .483cpp, versus 1545 points for $8.95, or .579cpp, for $300 VGCs at Staples, when neither has a rebate).

Can the cards really be coded only to work with certain vendor codes? For a restaurant card especially, the process is cumbersome, since you have to have enough on the card for the initial hold, and then you'd have to add it to your profile in order to earn credit with Rewards Network or Mogl.

Style everywhere visas didn't work at Walmart, or office supply store, or online.

Newgene Aug 4, 2016 3:58 am

Even if it's YMMV, a buck is likely not worth trying to figure out where it works. Buying $300 VGCs at Staples online for $9 activation, versus $300 worth of these from a store for $7.50 activation, is a difference of about a dollar per $100. And with how you value UR points, it may be much less.

Still thanks for the suggestion by the OP, and much appreciated. If you're going in there to buy $200 VGC anyway, it could make sense.

I've also read from a few people that they can't be used anywhere. Not sure how reliable those reports are. Any consensus on this?
