I'm confused. Jewel is not Albertsons.

They frequently run similar promotions.

It has to be the $50 denomination? Buying a $100 fixed won't work?

Jewel/Osco is owned by Albertsons along with Acme, Shaws and a few others.

Vons is owned by Safeway, which also owns Randalls, Tom Thumb and Carr's.

The two are planning to merge, but haven't yet.

Turns out the promotion is limited to $25 and $50 Visa GCs so the $100 fixed GC won't work. Coupon expires on 4/19. It didn't explicitly exclude alcohol so I was able to buy a bottle of champagne for pretty cheap. Cashier had to manually punch in the discount though, so YMMV.

Does anyone have experiences buying MOs with debit at Jewel? I typically use WM, but tried for fun at a couple of stores last week and was shot down.

Tried once and they wanted cash.

Stick to WM, it is the cheapest for MO in Chicagoland.

Same experience here, I tried asking about debit (cost 0.99 for max 500 each) at three locations at different shifts. Every time the clerks at the customer service booth wouldn't budge and firmly wanted cash. I can't confirm it's register hard coded. But I don't doubt that it's true given that it is hard coded against reloadit and paypower.

Got it. I've been looking for an alternative to WM since I've been getting more and more flack recently for GC use when buying MOs.

Jewel changed the policy a couple weeks ago to cash only for MOs. That one hurt.
