I am familiar with how amex and chase treat venmo transactions.

How does Citi categorize venmo charges, online purchase or cash advance?
Thanks for the feedback.

I'm so tempted to do a 2k transaction then done, but don't want to risk having the account frozen.

Citi, Amex, and Chase count them as transactions. Think AU cards, texting apps, and/or Citi virtual cards..... $2k a month is very conservative ;-)

Thanks for the reply. I've remained conservative with just $2K/mo but aggressive with $2K/single transaction. Much appreciated there wasnt a $500 limit. Too bad its all (likely ;) ) coming to an end for free....

I went pretty hard with multiple accounts for a few months. 5 accounts at $10k a month went through AMEX no problem. Then I did $28k in 2 months with 7 accounts using Citi virtual card numbers, and a week after the final $14k went through, they started freezing accounts. I still have 3 open but have been afraid to try it since they canceled a couple of my accounts. I wouldn't want funds frozen for awhile. Kind of a shame, because I really was using it to have my friends pay me for trips that I booked for them, and to send my roommate my rent portion each month.

Good deals come and go, oh well.

Now that they offer bank transfer payments, will I get to choose to pay by credit card if I add my bank account to cash out my current balance, or will they just take the money from my bank account?

I just did $486.42 on my Citi Hilton for "rent" last week and it was placed as a purchase. I actually just sent it to a dummy email that won't respond. The money will be credited back in 30 days. Looking to meet minimum spend. I think I did it this way last year and it worked.

If your previous payment was via credit card, after you input a payment amount and click "pay", a window opens offering you the option of sending money from your bank account ("free") or your credit card ($x.xx or 3%). Unfortunately, this is over. On to the next one.
