Accidentally made a payment just playing around, and not realizing my credit card was going to get charged. Then I canceled the payment. They charged my card 1000 and now I am depositing it in my checking account.

Seems like things are working a lot better now. The points guy is also using this. I think if you don't abuse the system it will work.

What is considered abusing the system though?

I think there is a waiting list even if you get an invite. The only way just a week or two ago to get a new membership is if someone sent you money.

Just signed up, you don't need an invite code. If you signup through someone's profile page, they do not ask you for a code.

Needed invite to join thru the website. BUT I downloaded the app and was able to sign up immediately through it. Try it.

Is it possible to register/use while outside the US (provided you have a US/Google Voice phone number and credit card)? I tried signing up thru the android app yesterday, it tried to send an SMS (which it failed because i'm guessing i'm not in the US). Is there any other way to register/verify the phone number?

You need a US IP address.
