Specific request: 4 segment luggage tag?

Quick one... Has anyone ever had a 4 segment luggage tag printed by MH, or knows whether it's possible? e.g. KUL-BKK-XXX-YYY-ZZZ, where first segment is MH, and the others are OW but separate PNR

I have done this in years gone by on SQ and NZ. It's manual, and not obvious, but neither SIN nor AKL premium check in flinched when I asked, even on separate PNRs, albeit all *A

Just wondered, otherwise I'll have to reclaim my bag at BKK (my longest layover) and re-check in again, although obviously that's an hour's faffing around when I'd rather be in a lounge

TIA

Technically it is possible, Altea has this capability. But officially OW does not support through check-in on separate tickets (CX could be the only exception), so rejection may happen.

OK cool, does MH use Altea too?
As for separate tickets, I've never had a problem checking through on MH connecting to other OW on separate tickets. And it's also definitely a published benefit on QR - there are whole threads discussing it...

This is incorrect - while OW removed it as a pan-OW policy, they have now left it up to each airline to define their own guidelines on this, and a number of OW airlines will still check through on separate PNRs - even to other OW airlines - including MH. See here:

4 flights... I think I remember reading that there is a limit of 3 flights on a single tag (CX only?). However, I have also believe the post mentioned that more than one tag can be used... hopefully someone with experience can chime in. Seems to be 4 sectors can go on one tag, so OP should be fine.[EDIT 2]As OP notes below, MH does max 3 segments on 1 tag (though as mentioned, multiple tags are possible).
(While not MH / OW, I believe this post and the next 2 are relevant: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...l)

(Yes, MH now uses Amadeus Altea.)

I had three flights tagged through last year with separate tickets:

KUL/DPS on MH
DPS/MEL/AKL on QF

Not four flights, but if their system can cope with four flights it should be possible. FYI I checked in at KL Sentral.

Thanks, ok, I will ask if I can check through then - doesn't harm to ask

And, yeah, I knew 3 was not a problem, I've done that loads in the past, but wondered if there was space for 4 on a tag. I guess there is!

In my experience, the 4th city goes on a new tag (so you'll have 2 tags). If the OW airline you are connecting to at BKK is OW, chances are MH will be able to issue you their BP too.

I have a data point on this. Two years ago I flew PNH-KUL-DOH-PHL-MSP on three separate tickets and the check-in agent at PNH refused to check bags past PHL because only three flights can go on one tag. Personally, I think the second tag may have required more work and the PNH agent was just being lazy but I did not press him further since I had to pickup the bags and take them through customs in PHL anyway.

I've done SIN-KUL-HKG-LAX-DCA-MIA on one tag
(well, 2 tags because it won't print on one)
That covered 3 separate tickets and 2 operating airlines.
MH at SIN (handled by SATS at the time, I believe) didn't blink. I was pretty surprised.

One of the two bags made it :p

Post-script...

4 segments + 3 PNRs was no problem at all, checking in at KL Sentral. Agent called over her colleague to help, but it was all done quickly and politely with two tags and all the requisite priority labelling, and she even issued boarding passes for connecting flights

Even better, my bag was first off at LHR, making it a record 20 mins from gate to tube, with a non-EEA/non-biometric passport at T5!
