Upgrade with cash and miles posting

I have bought some "O" class cheap tickets and upgrade with cash.
I want to post the miles on BA and wonder how this will work? O brings nothing, does upgraded fare brings miles?

You can only get mileage for your original booking’s fare class if you upgrade with MHUpgrade.
There is another, much more expensive option IIRC where you can upgrade at the airport (perhaps only at a lounge?); no idea how that works, but I believe it was mentioned that it’s a cost-inefficient way to get miles as compared to just buying a ‘Z’ ticket from the start.
