If you book through a Virtuoso agent then you will have superior customer service all around, whether or not you book the actual Virtuoso rate. Virtuoso agents can book the actual Virtuoso rate for clients with all the perks, or, if a lower discounted rate exists (but remember that very often the Virtuoso rate IS lower than any rate the public can get), the Virtuoso agent can book the lower rate for the client.
If a Virtuoso agent does book a non-Virtuoso rate, the client will still have a better chance of any perks than guests who book on their own or through a non-Virtuoso vendor (non-V agent or Expedia, etc.).
The Virtuoso hotel will see the Virtuoso identity of the agent and treat the client with preferred status.
That could mean an upgrade, it could mean private check-in, it could mean many different things.
