These types of policies are clearly offensive enough to be turning away guests, evidenced by this thread. These are different times than the past that you are describing. Traveling is so uncertain right now and most people want confidence and peace of mind that there is some flexibility in case a COVID related issue causes them to cancel. It's a little unfair to compare the past to now.

The fact that hotels are literally telling people that if the mountain is closed down and lifts aren't even running (because of COVID), there is no flexibility. Therefore, 100% of the risk is on the traveler and the hotel assumes zero risk. I find that pretty offensive and unfair given the COVID world we live in.
