On a semi related note, I'm interested in hotels that are owned by the management companies themselves because these obviously have less owner/management conflicts (i.e. owners generally aren't permitted to get involved in management, per their contractual agreements, but many can't help themselves). I know of one semi-luxury hotel in Shanghai, where the owner placed an 8-person team on site to "help" management. While this team did manage to boost the hotel's TA rating quite a bit, I felt that their initiatives conflicted with management's in a detrimental manner.

Amanfayun should be Government owned as well I would assume.

The St. Regis in Washington, DC is owned by the Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company who also owns one of the Four Seasons properties in Cario (First Residence), St. Regis Bal Harbour, the W Miami, as well as some other properties I'm not familiar with. The majority of their portfolio is in the Middle East. The company is, in turn, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani's holding company.

trump mostly doesnt own, owns DC for example
someone mentioned alwaleed, he's down to 2 FS
many governments own luxury hotels, i'm just not aware

IIRC the Plaza (NYC) was sold to someone in Saudi Arabia more than a decade ago. I'm not sure whether some units were converted to condominium apartments at the same time.
I'm not sure which came first, but the hotel was apparently having a tough time post 9/11 and decided to sell rooms very cheaply to tour groups, and in particular for very cheap trips. It changed the atmosphere as, for example, many of these tour group rooms were occupied by three or four adults.

While staying at the Park Hyatt in Ningbo, we had a tour by one of the managers, and she mentioned that the hotel was owned by the provincial government, and that after President Xi's corruption crackdown, local/provincial party leaders were banned from staying at the PH, and must now stay across the lake at a gov. owned lodge. She also implied that far more suites were available after this new policy
